Straight (sp) away. I did not watch the show last night because my children were home and watching tv. I thought about having them watch as a learning tool, but decided until I saw the footage myself I would not have them watch it.

Defend Thy Self or Leave the Field Of Battle!!
That is unfortunately becoming the mantra of Toledo's street thugs. Yesterday a man was shot and killed while bicycling to work. According to the Blade (sorry, my only current source) witnesses heard two men arguing, with the suspect "standing over" the man on the bike, and then shooting him in the head.
Another man was stabbed last night after a fight with a large group of people. Its a miracle Wednesday's killing was only the 11th of the year.
And last night ABC chronicled the tragic story of two teenage girls forced into the sex slave business IN TOLEDO, revealing TPD took 90 minutes to respond when her father found the house she was being kept (and then only after the criminals were beating him with rocks). That was a few years ago, but the pimp got 4 years in prison, the females who supervised the sex slaves got 6 1/2 each. Travesty.
As a father and armed citizen, I would have killed the pimp outright, and depending on the actions of the females, sat on the porch and waited for TPD to arrive. Murder? Maybe. Any doubt in my mind? None.
I live in a nice suburb of Toledo, keep my kids out of the city, Toledo Public Schools, and the mall for these very reasons. We attend Mud Hens games which end after dark, but I park in my work building and walk with them to and from the car keeping them close. We even attended the July 4th fireworks downtown, but again parked in my work building and avoided the Promenade Park.
Do I bring a gun to the games, not yet. But I avoid driving home along Dorr street after dark, a route I drive to work every day. Do I bring a gun to work, not yet. Have I brought a gun to a festival or event downtown, not yet. But as Toledo gets more and more violent I am faced with the very real choice of
Arming myself or leaving the field of battle.

TAHL -
The truth is that too much of society is ambivalent about sex crimes against teenagers. Too many people have the old notion that used to hang over rape victims of ... "They asked for it." (Probably because they are over-sexualized too early with all of the sexual messages that bombard them in the media.)
People ask why didn't these girls just leave or escape not knowing or understanding the psychological abuse that goes on in these cases too.
Look at the reporting of the stories involving teachers (male or female) who sexually exploit/assault their students and you will read words like ... "affair" or "relationship."
"Defend Thy Self or Leave the Field Of Battle"!!
One of my endeavors is youth advocate. To paraphrase an inner city kid's view of police.
Police are not revered and bestowed with authority but are a gang of their own. Police stick together, wear their own, colors, carry guns, they get to do things others don't. They go into another's turf and take drugs and money away.
Hell, the gangs and the sleaze themselves are there own enemies as are the police, we often end up in the crossfire.
The Toledo Police came out of that show looking pretty useless.
Now, maybe some folks will understand why the right to keep and bear arms is important.
Imagine if it had been your home being broken into and it took an hour and a half for the cops to get there.
And imagine all the people shooting other people for walking in their grass and other stupid reasons.
As far as the show goes, something seemed odd. Like did they think wigs were a disguise? And I would have thought they would have been emotional. Don’t know, just felt weird.
I'm not a lawyer, but isn't murder illegal around these parts? LOL
I would have to imagine negligent parenting (even by typical standards) allowed the situation to happen/progress in the first place.
"And imagine all the people shooting other people for walking in their grass and other stupid reasons".
Come on, I don't believe you're that stupid. A typical antigun bullshit response.
They said if Ohio passed the concealed carry law it would be blood in the streets, they said the same if the assault weapon ban wasn't renewed.
As some would say, "that dog don't hunt". It hasn't happened yet and it won't happen.
January 2006 Toledo Talk posting about the Toledo Blade's three-day series titled Lost Youth that investigated the teenage sex trade.
charlatan - I don't think its fair to say that negligent parenting was a cause.
I don't know what kind of parents those girls had, in general. But they were kidnapped walking to get ice cream in broad daylight.
I don't think its unreasonable that a parent would allow a kid that age to walk a few blocks for ice cream in broad daylight. (Its not as though the girls were picked up in the middle of the night walking home from a keg party. lol)
And I agree with the others...the police never would have made it to the guy, because either my husband, myself, or another family member would have killed him first. As far as the "murder" charges go...if you were on a jury knowing the circumstances that surrounded that crime, would you have cast a "guilty" vote for the father? I wouldn't. Rescuing your child who is being held hostage is the same thing as self-defense, as far as I'm concerned.
If I were in the fathers shoes, I wouldn't kill him, but I'd make damned sure he couldn't feel or move anything from his neck down.
Death is such an 'easy' way out. Suffer, you shiece of pit!

Make an effort, because he really and truly is that stupid. He isn't alone, either.
I agree with Mom2 and TAHL. I'd use a shotgun and pick up the empties.
Moreover, just let me sit on a jury for the person who killed this pimp. I'd be giving out medals and congratulations for making society a better place. This piece of scum is going to be out on the street again, and the police are going to ignore 911 calls - again. When are the residents of Toledo going to understand that they are on their own?
Get a CCW/CHL license, or open carry! (It is legal, BUT you're no doubt gonna get some resistance from PD!)

Amen Madjack, amen.
If it were my daughter, I would empty as many mags as I was carrying at the time into that piece of shit. If his adult whores got in the way, too bad for them.
Then if a jury could really find me guilty, so be it.
Well, have fun in the clink. Look at the parent in Michigan that shot “towards” the Bedford teacher after he caused an accident that killed his son. Nobody was even hurt and he got 6 years!
I was almost on that jury. You dont get to sentience him, only determine guilt or innocence, I dont think i would of found him guilty, I know i wouldn't if i knew beforehand he was gonna get 6 years.

Ryan - you're comparing apples and oranges with the Fackleman case.
Threatening a guy with a gun 9 months after an accident is not even remotely the same thing as trying to rescue your daughter from a guy who has her held hostage in a house at that very moment.
Mom2: Thanks, I couldn't remember the case Ryan was referring to.
I can't imagine my own parents waiting thirty seconds for police to show up, let alone over an hour. As to the inevitable fallout from the collateral damage, look what happened to Bernard Goetz, the New York subway vigilante. The jury refused to find him guilty of felony criminal charges when Goetz defended himself against four gangsters intent on robbing him. Just let me sit on a jury for a trial like that one - Not Guilty, yerhonner, and buy that man a drink!

4 years for the pimp and 6 1/2 for the women who "supervised" the sex slavery of theses children. (according to yesterday's blade article) Travesty.
Had I been the father who went to the house and confronted the pimp, the 90 minute delay in police response to the home where they were kept would have been 89.5 minutes unneccessary, I would have killed him staight away.
