I happened to be in the Hilton next to the MCO campus because I was doing interviews. Happenstance had it that The Fresh Market was also doing interviews in the Hilton while I was there.
While grabbing a bite to eat, the District Manager for The Fresh Market was sitting at the table next to me with someone else from The Fresh Market. I couldn't help but interject when I heard them complaining about the overpaid workers in Toledo. I asked who they thought were overpaid, and they said everyone they had interviewed. I asked what the salary range was for the position they were interviewing, which was Assistant Store Manager. The answer was an astronomical $28-$35K a year. I laughed!
My husband worked as a deli manager for years and made almost $40k. His Assistant Store Manager made close to $50k, and this was in a market that was as small as, if not smaller than, The Fresh Market.
I continued to eat my lunch and listen to their conversation of how stupid Toledoans are and how finding a good candidate from the Toledo area will be impossible. Their solution was to pull someone from another store and have them come here. As they left, they asked me to come back later and join them for a drink... but they were both wearing wedding bands!?!?!
I was appalled. I will never shop at that store when it opens, and have written a letter to the corporate headquarters regarding the conversation. Sad, since I was looking forward to another great market entering the Toledo area.
Fresh Market? Are They Speaking of the Managers?

Sorry, I might have typed that too fast to be coherent. $28-35k is The Fresh Market's salary range for an assistant store manager. Their complaint was that many of the people they were interviewing made much more than that figure. And yes, they said that their assistant store manager is second in command, which means controlling somewhere around 50 employees? I could be a little off in the employee number because I don't remember exactly.
But, still a joke.
Do they not understand that a family of 6, 2 adults and 4 children would be eligible for foodstamps at that rate.
I, however, would take the pay. Where do I apply?

12 bucks an hour is the life salary of the workers of the New World Order. That's another great reason why house prices will crash and remain low for a generation. Two adults making $12/hr will only afford the current pricing by taking on 2nd jobs apiece, and with the dearth of jobs, that's just not going to happen. 2.5x$12×2080=$62400, which is the maximum house price affordable by the Toledo couple of 2020. DEAL WITH IT.
Well I think the main point here is that outside of Toledo, in other places fresh market is $28-35K is enough. And people keep wondering why jobs don't come here, maybe its because businesses can go elsewhere and find capable people willing and able to work for less than here in the thriving metropolis of Toledo.
And Lori Lee you must think a lot about yourself, if you assume that they invited you back for drinks for something solicit. They could have been looking to talk to you as a local, so that they get a better feel for the area,
LOL! I think Lori Lee has other reasons she is so anti Fresh Market, but won't come clean with it. Perhaps she didn't get the job.
I looked at most of their store locations, and except for a few cities, it seems like they prefer to operate in cities that have a low(er) cost of living.
Of course, ToledoLatina, maybe they shouldn't be having those families of 6 if they can't support them.

$28K-$35K is supposed to be "too much" for an assistant store manager? (Who, I presume would be 2nd in command of the store, behind the store manager.) What a joke!
