Favorite Home improvement Stores?

Just wondering what everyone's favorite homeimprovement store was in the area and why?

I'm doing some remodeling and jsut wondering where my TT friends shop for their homeimprovement needs and why they shop there.

Also- where don't you shop for homeimprovment supplies and why?

Home Depot. People working there know their stuff and are friendly. I've had 'em go out of their way to help me. Won't shop at Lowe's because of chicken-shit company policy, they don't treat their employees as well.

First preference is Menards, 99% of the time they have the cheapest price, but they're employees aren't always the most knowledgeable. Second preference is Home Depot for the same reason as Darkseid! And I'm also totally in agreement with Darkseid, I avoid Lowe's at ALL costs!

agreed with above. menards has a better selection but you absolutely need to know/understand what you want to do. HD has the more no non-sense get the job done selection and their employees, if you can find them, know their stuff. won't go to lowe's EXCEPT they stock some interesting light fixtures.

I actually have had the exact opposite experience. I love Lowes and despise Home Depot. Anytime I went to HD I had to chase down someone to tell me they do not know. Lowes – on the other hand have treated me great. Just over a few years I have bought a privacy fence, carpet, a refrigerator and tons of landscaping materials all at Lowes with nothing but a good deal.

Hate ALL the big box home improvement stores. Prefer local yokle hardware stores. Friendlier, more knowledge, and far easier to deal with.

Customer service at Lowes is 100% better than Home Depot. Home Depot sucks... don't ever hire them to redo a kitchen, unless you're cool with going 4+ months without one.

I prefer Lowe's over Home Depot. I can't stand the fact I have to search for someone at HD if I need help. Rarely do I have that problem at Lowe's.

I also shop at a local place, Colony Hardware, at times.

Im in logistics and Home depot is famous for treating their suppliers AND their employees like dirt. I wouldnt go a project if the only place I could get material was home depot...

84 lumber still going strong so far, Ace Hardware in Point Place, still there.

Ace Hardware in Point Place, then Lowe's.

If I have to go somewhere else I guess Home Depot, but they never have what I need.

Menards' selection sucks and I can't stand that fucking song.

I like to go to Gladiuex's in Oregon but their prices are expensive a times. East Side hardware is the best for tools and other little things. Those guys know their shit.

For me, it's Lowes. I have had too many bad experiences with customer service at Home Depot. Have never had any at Lowes. Home Depoy employees more often than not act like you are bothering them and then also are not even knowledgeable. Having said that, my experience with Home Depot is pretty much limited to the one on Secor.

For Hometown loyalty: Any local hardware store will do. I prefer FLEEGERS but I am from South Toledo. BIG BOX STORES need not appy!

For Service/Knowledge:
Lowes
HD
Menards

For price:
Menards
Lowes
HD

For selection:
HD
Lowes
Menards

I miss our small local hardware which closed when Home Depot came to town. Have any of you noticed how recent immigrants are moving into large areas of vacated older retail strips when stores are abandoned due to decisions made by corporations only interested in their bottom line? Why can we not have City planning which can influence corporations? Local shops within walking distance will soon be owned by people with dual citizenship. What do you all think of that? Then to add insult to injury, the only way we can get to the far away shopping places is by car, buying gasoline which further puts us in the pockets of foreigners. We're screwed unless young people pull themselves up by their bootstraps and form their own businesses and promote local agriculture. What do you all think?
