Mayoral Candidates

I was at the Old West End Festival on Saturday and the Blessed Sacrament Festival on Sunday. I didn't see any Mayoral candidates or any of their surrogates with shirts or signs. What's with that? They're usually out in force at events like this. Doesn't anybody REALLY want the job?

It's the ones that don't show up for the Labor Day parade that don't want the job.

Paula, Wade, and Tom walked in the OWE Festival parade as did candidates for other offices.

Yeah they were definitely in the parade. I heard Opal was also in the OWE gathering signatures...

They probably figure hanging out with the rowdies, drunks and carnies isn't good for their image.

So they told the candidates to stay home.

We didn't go to the parade but we did see Kurt Young and Nick Komives out and about at the festival and a few people with "Pick Nick" shirts on.

I believe Kurt lives in the OWE and I heard Nick moved from downtown to the OWE so I understand why the would be out in full force

I wonder what the mayoral candidates think of the administration hiring two out of Toledo law firms to collect past due debts. The firms in Cleveland and Columbus will not pay any Toledo city tax on their earnings. The city has three Toledo firms and two outside Toledo firms doing their collection work. There are several other Toledo collection attorneys who would do a good job but instead they use some nonToledo lawyers.

I bet Cleveland and Columbus do not hire Toledo attorneys to do their collection work. How can the city encourage citizens to buy local when they decline to do so?

They should be using all local attorney's to collect. The out of town law firms will probably outsource the work to local lawyers or paralegals screwing the residents even more. Or better yet why not hire interns from the University law school for some of the work.

I don't understand why the "commission" varies so much either. Shouldn't all the law firms be paid on the same fee structure unless the higher commissioned firms are handling cases they are less likely to collect on.

Hickory Farms left Toledo due to a lack of talent and now the city is turning around and doing the same instead of using all local firms.
