Restaurant review - Chowders n Moor

Sunday afternoon I found myself out on Airport highway looking at rocks at the local sand and stone places, and lunchtime rolled around.

We were out on airport, and the former Albon Inn, (now Sammys) was closed, so we pulled in to Chowders n Moor, and had a very good meal!

It's mostly a soup and sandwich place, but I did see some steak and some fish dinner entrees on the menu...

The interior is all nautical, which reminded me of some of the Put In Bay places. They also offered an outdoor patio with umbrella covered picnic tables.

When I go to a new place, I always try their 'specialty of the house', and the ciabatta sandwich I got was wonderful, and HUGE. Truth be told, unless you're REAL hungry, I wouldnt recommend getting a whole - next time I'll just order half, and get a cup of their house specialty chicken chili.

This is their second location, the first being in waterville. Waterville's nice, but very small. this is much larger.

I dont get out that way much, if I can help it, but you can get out there via the country roads to avoid all the traffic.

Thanks for the review, I have actually been wanting to try that place. Their online menu looks pretty good. Varied, but you can get typical fair if in that mood too.

Currently I am working on increasing my cholesterol level every Saturday morning at Family Affair in Point Place. Awesome breakfasts.

We have had two reasonably good experiences there in the last month. Other than being out of a couple of menu items the food and service were above average.

We'll see if they're still around in a year. This area has more restaurants per capita (perhaps bars, too) than any other place in the U.S; unless someone's overtaken us (USA TODAY, about four years ago).

BTW, what the hell is ciabatta, Billy? Not code name for some kind of squid or something, is it? I've never heard of it.

it's a type of bread, for italian sandwiches.

They past that mile marker a while back - Airport hwy is actually the byproduct of the success they've been enjoying at their first locale in waterville.

I'll stick with Rye.

I've never been to the Airport location but I have been to the Waterville restaurant many times and have never had a bad meal there. The Chicken Chili is really good.

Thanks for the post, Billy; I'm glad that you had a good experience at Chowders.
