I know, right?

Obamas camp should send him flowers.

More than anything, I believe this speaks to the state of mind of the McCain camp at this point in the campaign.

Even though national polls basically show a only a slight Obama lead, McCain's camp obviously felt they had to 'shake up' the dynamics of this race. For sure, this is what people will be taking about for the next week, through the end of the GOP convention.

It can't be more obvious this is a blatant intent to grab as many Democratic and Independent women who are Hillary lovers and unsure about voting for Obama as possible.

Sorry, libs - game over.

Feel free to get back to me after the Dukakis-esque landslide in November, because this pick will absolutely energize conservatives and independents to vote for McCain instead of against the empty suit Marxist Obamanation.

Team McCain is making Obama and his sycophants look like the ignorant, arrogant noobs they are.

I. Love. It.

First of all, where are all the comments here in boldface?

Second of all, TeamDub, moronic references to Marxism aside, what exactly is it about this woman that is going to lead to a GOP landslide in November?

How about the fact she has more experience than Obama?

Thing with Biden I can actually see the MPIA owning your TV set and you get to pay them monthly rent just to watch it. Maybe the RIAA will own our radios too.

Heh, "moronic?"

Do you have any sort of grasp of what Marxism actually is?

If you truly did, you wouldn't hilariously label my comparison "moronic."

Sounds like you need another tall glass of HOPECHANGE!

McCaskey - to actually address your question, Palin is a solid, solid conservative.

She is a bit of a "maverick" to say the least, attacking pork and corruption in her home state.

She is unabashedly pro life.

She is a genuine, believable and likable human being, a stark contrast to puffy shirt Obama and lifer insider "Plugs" Biden.

Obama/Biden - vacuous, vapid and utterly devoid of any substance whatsoever, relying on typical dem voter ignorance and, frankly, sheer stupidity and vague sloganeering.

You can lie to yourself all you want, but this will be a landslide of epic proportions for McCain/Palin.

Period.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go cry my fake eyelashes off...

I'll be saving this thread for future reference.

Latest AP story (here comes the 'liberal' media) on her:

"In two short years, Sarah Palin moved from small-town mayor with a taste for mooseburgers to the governor's office and now making history to John McCain's side as the first female running mate on a Republican presidential ticket.

She has more experience catching fish as a former commercial fisherwoman than dealing with foreign policy or national affairs.

Typically seen walking the Capitol halls in black or red power suits while reading text messages on Blackberry screens in each hand, Palin made a recent appearance in fashion magazine Vogue.

"At first they had me in a bunch of furs," she said of the photo shoot. "Yeah, I have furs on my wall, but I don't wear furs. I had to show them my bunny boots and my North Face clothing."

Palin's clean-hands reputation has come into question with an investigation recently launched by a legislative panel into whether she dismissed Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper. Trooper Mike Wooten went through a messy divorce from Palin's sister.

The governor denied orchestrating the dozens of telephone calls made by her husband and members of her administration to Wooten's bosses. She says she welcomes the investigation: "Hold me accountable.""

Good luck with that landslide.

posted by McCaskey on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:02:19 pm     #

No luck needed, but thanks.

"She says she welcomes the investigation: 'Hold me accountable.'"

Another one of those pesky stark differences...

Hey, I have an idea - maybe Biden can plagiarize her bio a smidge?

Oh, and the eyelash thing... it refers to noted political genius Oprah Winfrey.

As the kids say, "Google it."

McCain cleary underestimates how many male independent & GOP leaning voters, who will now vote for the Obama/Biden ticket; or just sit out this election all together.

With a 4-month old infant at home that has downs syndrome, this lady wants to be Vice-President ?

In related news, I was having a political discussion with some hispanic guy at work today.

I asked him who he was going to vote for in November. He told me Hillary Clinton. He's behind her 100 percent.

I explained to him that Hillary isn't even in the contest anymore. I told him he now needs to now make a choice between McCain and Obama (or Bob Barr). I had to explain the whole primary election process to him.

He admitted watching Obama give his speech on t.v., but he didn't understand what it all meant.

He still insists that Obama, McCain and Hillary are still going to be on the ballot in November.

We still have the Ron Paul convention in Minnesota next week, alongside the GOP convention. It will be interesting to see what develops out of that.

McCain said in introducing her:

"The person I'm about to introduce to you was a union member and is married to a union member and understands the problems, the hopes and the values of working people, knows what it's like to worry about mortgage payments and health care and the cost of gasoline and groceries," he said.

All the conservatives on Toledo Talk should really appreciate that aspect of her, given how they love to embrace the union philosophy.

Hey, dubs, she kinda sounds like a....gasp!....Marxist!

How does having Biden as a running mate assure anyone of "CHANGE"? The guy has been loitering in D.C. longer than McCain.

NTM- Change is already guaranteed for the office of POTUS, and a change in Congress already happened at the last election. So I guess the only thing left to change would be the type of government he plans to push. ??

The only way to predict what someone will do is to look at their past. Do any of you Obama-heads have a clue about his history of friends and influences?

My vote goes to McCain now.

posted by mom2 on Aug 29, 2008 at 03:21:32 pm     #

Still trying to decide whether this was a brilliant or idiotic choice. I guess we'll know in 67 days.

On one hand, she shores up the conservative base and the women who will vote for a woman candidate no matter what party. Plus she has a small town aww shucks attitude who clearly knows how many houses she owns.

On the other hand, she is not very experienced in foreign affairs and makes McCain look even older when she stands next to him. Plus, it sort of undercuts McCain's complaints of Obama not having enough experience to serve as President. And who knows how this investigation in Alaska is going to turn out.

Either way, I have to give McCain credit for swinging for the fences. This is his last shot at the presidency.

But thanks for your in-depth expose'.

Admit it, she is NOT qualified and the only reason she is up is because she has a vagina.

carty finkbeiner has a more impressive resume.

posted by thetoledowire_com on Aug 29, 2008 at 07:17:24 pm     #

Good lord...

If one more idiot tries to sell Palin as having more executive experience. That's like saying that Carty Finkbeiner would make a good choice for VP. She has less experience than Obama, who has very little experience himself.

If you want to vote for McCain/Palin fine, but don't try to make her out to be more qualified than Obama, that's too obvious. It's like the 5th grader who says, "What's the answer to question 5 - I already know, I just want to see if you do." Everyone knows it's bullshit. If McCain were to keel or be assasinated, can you really tell me she would be equipped to handle the Presidency? She is the Republican counterpart to Obama, plain and simple.

Either you think "experience" is the most important factor in your decision or you do not. If you made that argument before but now find Palin a genius pick, ask yourself if you care about experience or if you just wanted to poke holes in the Democratic ticket. The ridiculous cherry picking won't fly with anyone having more than a 6th grade education.

My guess is McCain lost all the votes from animal rights people by picking Palin.

And all abortion rights people.

She has an infant at home & as the news says, she's a "heartbeat away from being president' - I have to agree, it's like choosing Carty as VP - a Carty with a baby.

After the initial shock value of this suprise announcement, it'll calm down. Chris Mathews had some scary looking woman on from PUMA this afternoon, who apparently forgot you can smile, and she seems to just be in the mindset - "if it doesn't have a vagina, i'm not voting for it." People like her and in her organization were all about Hillary, but it looks like they were for Hillary for the wrong reason. Not for where Hillary stood, but because of her gender.

They are typical women's rights people, but I'm gonna laugh if McCain/Palin get elected and then all of a sudden Roe-v-Wade gets overturned. They are going to be so pissy and upset, but its like...you knew this going in, but you couldn't see anything about the candidate above the belt.

Needless to say, I'm waiting for the debates to make my final call on which way I go. I'm registered Republican, have always voted that way, but I'm not leaving that way - at least for the top office. But...it won't matter. I'm in a state that will go 65% Red, so my vote really doesn't count. LOL

With her 6 years leading parades and cutting ribbons in Wasalia, AK, and 1.5 years as governor is she ready to go toe to toe with Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?

Is she even the most qualified woman in the Republican party (Sen. Olympia Snowe, Sen. Kay Baily Hutchinson)?

Is this a responsible pick given that McCain is already passed the average US life expectancy for men and only getting older?

Palin brings several things to the table Democrats fear.

She has worked, lived, and governed (at the municiple and state level) in a state that:

1) Has no income tax.
2) Leads our country in energy development (safely).
3) Has a strong military presence in a strategically key state.
4) Has a privacy act in its Constitution making Govt. abuses such as eminent domain, smoking bans, and other intrusions harder.

She is able to debate ANWR with facts and personal experience in the region not just by claiming baby seals will be killed, and showing pictures of mountain ranges not found in ANWR. She is a sucessful, independant, strong, attractive WOMAN who is not a Gloria Stienem liberal. She is not entrenched in Washington, owes no favors, and has no reason to cow-tow to special insterest groups.

Because she is a surprise pick - to herself as well - she has not orchestrated her life for a run to the white house. Given that McCain is likey a one term President, she may likewise only wish to be a one term VP who will tell the special interests to buz off, she doesn’t need them.

OR - and here is the real scary part for Democrats and liberals - she will be a successfull VP under McCain and will become the HISTORIC first female President. Once again Republicans will be on the right side of history (as with the voting rights act and civil rights act) and show AGAIN that despite the rhetoric of the left, conservatives believe in success on merit not gender, race, creed, color or sexual orientation.

Here it comes. Liberal hypocracy again. For years you have heard by the womens movement, "you can be any woman you want to be, you can be a mother and an executive." and they have heralded older women as mothers. Now, a Republican woman is wrong for wanting to serve her country and be a mother at the same time.

This VP pick is nothing more than a political chess move and a blatant pander to the Clinton crowd with a very poor Hillary stand-in. Some of her supporters might break ranks, far more will be insulted by this tokenism.

This doesn't say to women, "McCain must really care about women's issues". It says, "He must really think we are dumb." It's a step back for the women's movement and for our culture. Frankly, it's embarrassing.

Palin brings several things to the table Democrats fear.

Actually, this are-you-kidding-me? choice proves precisely who's running scared.

She's been governor, for less than two years, of a state that has more reindeer than people. She also happens to currently be in some ethics hot water in that same state, but we can save that for later. Before that, she was mayor of a town, or more aptly village, the size of Rossford, Waterville, or Maumee.

She'd be next in line after 72-year-old, with-a-history-of-skin cancer John McCain for the toughest job in the world.

Is this really all it takes to shore up 'the conservative base' or sway disgruntled Hillary supporters into voting GOP?

I'm guessing somebody high up in the Republican strategic hierarcy concluded America has been dumbed down far enough by the likes of 'American Idol', 'Dancing With The Stars', I-pods, chattin'-on-the cell phone-at the mall and internet instant-messenging types that this sort of pigs-can-fly gameplan might actually succeed, and, after all, look who we've elected twice in the last eight years?

I'm betting, though, this time enough people have gotton alot smarter.

Alaska has no income tax because 80% of it's tax revenue comes from oil excavation. It's an oil state. And a fish state to kill the oil smell.

The other thing about Alaska which might be related or not, it seems to attract people with drug, legal, and/or family problems from the continental US.
