I have a friend coming to town and we want to go out for sushi. Never been to any of the restaurants here in town so wondered if someone could recommend one to me.

If money isn't an issue, Nagoya or Bistro Wasabi down at Levis Commons. I've eaten at BW once, and it was that good.
Stepping down from there, I've heard Fujiyama on Reynolds is pretty good.

I asked my hubby, the resident sushi eater in the house, he agreed with both of the above, saying Kotobuki is the best by far!
He also found a great place for take out sushi, it's up on Central and King in the "plaza's" by Meijer, just down from the now closed Schlotzky's deli. But neither one of us can remember the name of it right now if our life depended on it...LOL!

What kind of sushi would you recommend trying for the first time?
Yeah, I've had good sushi at Bistro Wasabi. I haven't tried any others yet. Uraku down in Bowling Green (right off the highway) is also really good.

Its Taruman and yes, it is good.
I've visited all the places in Toledo, but keep going back to Fujiyama, on Reynolds off Dorr.

Kotobuki is my favorite too. I was really disappointed with Bistro Wasabi when I went there. It was pretty new when I went, so they maybe they worked out some kinks, but once was enough for me.
I think the first time you eat sushi, you should try all of the main ways sushi is prepared. Get a roll - spider rolls with fried soft-shell crabs are usually popular with newbies. Get some sushi, which is a piece of fish on top of rice, like spicy tuna. And pick out a few different pieces of sashimi, which is just the piece of fish.

Havent tried them all, but Sakura was better than bistro wasabi
Bistro Wasabi (Levis Commons) gets their seafood fresh everyday so it has a mild, nonfishy taste. It's the best I've every had. We sit at the counter and watch the preparations. Very entertaining.

In Japanese cuisine, sushi is vinegared rice, usually topped with other ingredients, including fish, various meats, and vegetables. Outside of Japan, sushi is sometimes misunderstood to mean the raw fish itself, or even any fresh raw-seafood dishes.
One that hasn't been mentioned is Sori Sushi, which is also on Monroe. I personally like Sori and Sakura. My wife and I usually go to Sori because it's cheaper and seems like a better value to us.

Sori? It's on the Anderson's side of the street, down close to the Marco's Pizza (and its office) and Wild Bird's Unlimited. If you're traveling from the mall area, it's on the right approx 1 mile from Talmadge. If you drive by the light for Target, you've gone too far.
Surprised that no one has mentioned Yoko on Dussel. I like that place. And I offer a thumbs up to Bistro Wasabi. Non-sushi folks will love the filet there, one of the best I have ever had.
Does Kotobuki have food for the non-sushi eater? Have a friend that I may get to join if he doesn't have to eat sushi...even though I've tried to tell him it's good!

Just an FYI for all you sushi people who mentioned that you like Sori.
(Neither my husband nor I eat sushi, but when I saw the coupon I thought of you guys. I'd give one of you my $10 coupon, but not sure how I'd get it to you. lol)
I have one word for sushi...YUK! I like my fish cooked. Hell if you want sushi I can get a whole bucket of minnows for you at the bait shop. Wrap 'em up and you will never know the difference.
KrazyKat, you don't have to have sushi with raw fish. I routinely eat sushi with no fish at all.
There are plenty of options with vegetable rolls. Cucumber, asparagus, avacado, mushrooms, and carrots are just a few veggies that come in these rolls. There are many others.
Another added bonus is these rolls are cheaper. I love that, being very focused on finances.
yes...tempura rolls are awesome and one my favs behind Spicy Tuna and 007. Oh and don't forget spinach with peanut butter sauce.
We ended up at Tea Tree Asian Bistro (Levis Commons) and it was phenomenal! My friend has eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants around the country in her travels and she raved about this one. Thought I'd share in case you had never been there. They also have quite a menu of other entrees for the non sushi eaters which is nice.

I cannot recommend Sakura or Kotobuki enough. They are both on Monroe Street. Go to Sakura for a more upscale feel, but Kotobuki is small and quaint and fantastic as well.
