Happy Labor Day

If you are currently in labor, or your water has broken, please go to the hospital. Otherwise - a parade is fine.

At that parade guard your freedom well. Big Labor - much more evil than Big Oil, is attacking your freedom, liberty and choice every day.

But if it weren't for a union (which I despised), I wouldn't have a pension (meager though it is). Without it, I couldn't survive. I don't know how future generations will make it-they'll probably have to work until they die. Problem is....no one ones to hire anyone over 50, because they'll use the health insurance when their bodies begin to break down. Catch-22.

Don't forget to thank labor activists for weekends, 40-hour work weeks, paid vacations, etc...

Happy Labor Day!!

Big oil is fucking the Tiny remaining Labor Unions, just as they are fucking the nation. The corporations are so nice,, that's why Ford is relocating all its production to Mexico, because they are so good for America. AssHoleLawyer, do you represent corporations only? If you do other work as well you should realize that one third of a $50k lost wage settlement is more than one third of $25K. As a lawyer you should know that you only have a chance of actually getting something if its put down in a contract. Oh, and your clients who make $25k, and there are more and more of them every day, won't be able to pay your asking hourly price, so it'll have to come down. Or is justice still only for the rich and corporate fucks?

Happy Labor Day prime3end!
(I'm wishing you that while I'm at work today earning triple pay thanks to my very generous employer).

This one's just for you.

http://www.liberalwhiners.com/2008/08/15/you-might-be-a-liberal25-reasons/
With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy, you just might be a liberal if...

  • You're sure the Constitution explicitly guarantees the right to abortion and gay marriage, but not the right to own a handgun.
  • You think Dan Quayle is the dumbest Vice-President we ever had because he believed a flash card that misspelled "potato," but think Obama is a genius despite the fact he believes we have more than 57 states.
  • You'd be more upset about your favorite candidate being endorsed by the NRA than the Communist Party.
  • You think the same criminals who use guns in the commission of a crime will just hand them over to comply with the law if guns are made illegal.
  • You know that 86% of all income taxes are paid by the top 25% of income earners and you still feel that the rich "aren't paying their fair share of the taxes."
  • You put a higher priority on oil pipelines possibly inconveniencing a few caribou than you do on lowering the price of gas for everyone in the country by drilling ANWR.
  • You're worried that Osama Bin Laden might not get a fair trial if we capture him, but want George Bush thrown in prison for being too zealous in protecting us from Al-Qaeda.
  • You get infuriated when you hear about the CEO of a Fortune 500 company making tens of millions of dollars, but don't see a problem with an actor, basketball player, or trial lawyer making the same amount.
  • You're constantly seeing subtle, coded racism in campaign ads, but see nothing racist about blacks being promoted over more qualified white applicants because of Affirmative Action.
  • You think it's obscene that oil companies are allowed to make 8.3 cents per gallon in profit with gas prices this high, but would never suggest cutting the 13 cents per gallon they pay on taxes to reduce the price of gas.
  • You think George Bush is a chickenhawk because he wanted to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan despite the fact that he only served in the National Guard, but you don't think the same about Barack Obama, who has never served in the military and probably couldn't find either country on a map without help.
  • You think protesting outside of abortion clinics is extremism and should be illegal, but carrying around giant puppet heads while wearing a t-shirt that compares Bush to Hitler is just exercising your First Amendment rights.
  • You think the case for global warming is proven without a shadow of a doubt, but that we need another century or two worth of evidence to figure out if capitalism and free markets work better than socialism.
  • You believe the best way to fix the government screwing something up in the market is with...drumroll, please...more government intervention.
  • You think the first thing we should have done when Russia invaded Georgia was to take the matter to the United Nations, where Russia sits on the UN Security Council.
  • You spend your days criticizing the use of private jets, SUVS, and luxurious houses that consume enormous amounts of resources and then ride in an SUV to the airport, get on your private plane, and fly home to your luxurious house.
  • You have more nice things to say about countries like Cuba and France than you do about your own country.
  • You think the war in Iraq is unwinnable, but victory in the war on poverty is going to happen any day now if we can just get the Democrats back in charge.
  • You won't even support English as our national language, but can't seem to understand why people worry about tens of millions of illegal aliens changing our culture.
  • You think censorship is absolutely wrong; except when it's applied to conservatives on college campuses or on talk radio via the fairness doctrine.
  • You get more upset about an American soldier accidentally killing a civilian than you do about a terrorist deliberately blowing up a school bus full of kids.
  • You think Fox News is hopelessly biased to the right, but MSNBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, and CBS call it right down the middle.
  • You think the real hero of the Cold War was Mikhail Gorbachev.
  • You couldn't care less about what Americans in states like Kansas or Virginia think of you, but you would be greatly upset if a Frenchman gave you a dirty look because you're an American.
  • You think kids in public schools should have to watch Earth in the Balance and read Heather Has Two Mommies, but no piece of literature with the word "Jesus" on it should be allowed within a hundred yards of a school.

Wow, what a post, I'd expect if from a fascist pig, not a lovely girl like you.
Working on labor day? I forgot you have to work the parade.

Look up the definition of fascism then look in the mirror.

Very good though that you can post a bunch of twisted republicon talking points brewed up by Karl Rove and sons for one of their stooges.

The only traitors I see are the ones too chicken shit to speak the truth, and too lazy to find it.

Prime - angry much??!! Did you read my post that the link took you to? Just curious (and shamelessly advertising my own site.) I do represent corporations and individauls actually, which has no relation to my opinions on labor unions or their strangle hold on our region, or their effort to destroy the secret ballot - see link.

Pink_slip - I agree, we do owe alot to labor unions bringing us out of the industrial revolution with safety, a decent work week, and some logical restrictions on business. I am the son and son-in-law of union employees and have been a union employee myself.

BUT, I happen to think that their history does not justify the present negative impact they have on capitalism, freedom, liberty, taxes, development, etc. I believe it is unions who stifle modern competition and investment in our region and country. I don't think ANY organization should be able to force money from my pockets and spend it on the political candidate or issue of its choosing, and cut deals with congress to remove my right to a secret ballot when issues effecting the union are raised.

As an end note - my good friend who is a journeyman union electrician - does not work a 40 hr week, does not get paid vacation and does not get any paid sick leave. He gets a great wage which makes up for some of it, but he is completey restricted from marketing his skills outside of the union in any reasonably succesful manner because of the hold unions have in this region.

Actually Darkside,

We'll make it through responsible spending and non-spending. We will invest our money instead of buying boats, two cars, big homes, lake houses, etc...like all the auto union workers did in the 70's thru 90's.

I know far to many union auto workers who made a lot of money for pushing a button every thirty seconds and have nothing to show for it. I don't feel sorry for them. They should have been smarter with their money instead of living beyond their means.

Isn't the ABA a de facto union? (my answer: yes).

Don't lawyers create their own workfare programs through bogus legislation and intrusion into business and personal lives?

Why do you legally need approximately 19 years of education to understand some small area of law that anyone could decently learn with a few weeks of training and guidance?

So you lay out $70k or so and 7 years of your life to do work that is generally trivial and bureaucratic?

There are more lawyers per capita in the U.S. than any other country. You need look no further than our own local politicians to see that.

Thanks Pink.

Stooks - no my name is not Owen.

Charlatan - thanks for the backhanded insults this time, trivializing my hard work and chosen profession. But its OK, I agree there are too many lawyers, and government created self fulfilling work for them. See my screenname (thats called self deprecating irony).

The ABA is a de-facto socialist leftist union of which I am neither a member nor a supporter. Because of the ABA and liberal university administrations a legal education is overly expensive. Is it necessary - yes, even to be able to do the trivial and bureaucratic work you claim many lawyers perform.

But, I digress - can't argue position, fact, and logic - personally attack your opponent. Once again you don't disappoint.

Actually he isn't at all, he could very well take a withdraw and go to work for any non-union electrical contractor that he wishes.

However he probably doesnt wish to leave becasue union electricians make a great wage, insurance is 100% paid for by the contractors he works for, as well as a medical savings acount that his contractor pays into on his behalf and the pension and annuity plans that his contractor also pays into. I don't think i would trade that kind of deal for a few vacation days.
