Commercials that drive me nuts

First the commercial about sending your old gold jewelry in for money. If you have ever dealt with pawn shops or jewelers buying used jewelry, you know that they will only give you about 10% of the actual value. So when the old lady on the commercial says, "I got $600 from my old gold jewelry." That really means that she sent them about $5000 worth of gold. What a rip off.

Second is the shamwow. That annoying jerk spills soda on a small square of carpet. You can see the soda leaking out from under the carpet square before he puts his "shamwow" on it. The camera switches to him getting his shamwow ready, then when it goes back to the carpet square, all the soda that leaded out under it is gone and he hasn't even put the shamwow on it yet. That shamwow must "suck" the liquid up against gravity to work that good.

Lastly, is the male enhancement. The line where the woman says, we have sold so many of these that they must work or we couldn't afford to offer a free trial.

Some commercials are just so bad that you have to wonder what idiots are buying that stuff. Whoops, I just spilled my soda on my keyboard. Where's my shamwow?

I hate anything that has that yelling jerk Billy Mays in it. Why does he have to yell the entire time. Although the cell phone commercial with the mom yelling at her husband about throwing out the "milky minutes" cracks me up everything time.

Know what's better than fast forwarding through commercials via a DVR? Programming the remote for a 30 second skip and only having to hit it 4 or 5 times and your right back to the show. Most people that use FF go past the show and have to rewind. I have instructions over at my blog for those interested...

Hey HT Sausage- I agree with your post on loudmouth Billy Mays. I wonder if he's on a caffeine high.
Didn't he do a demonstration for a detergent named Kaboom? He would put a soiled white shirt into a tub of Kaboom solution and 3 seconds later, VOILA! He pulls it out clean. I wonder if this was a trick using 2 shirts- a soiled one and a clean one. The camera could be stopped while he made the switch.

I like the Geico Gecko commercials, but find the cave man ones rather annoying.

Was amazed they spinned that off into a TV show. Though I think it only lasted maybe 1-2 eps before being cancelled. Some people dislike it other enjoy it shrug.

It used to be that commercials appealed to the intelligence, sophistication and the astuteness of consumers. It seems now that commercials go out of their way to portray their customers as nitwits and goofs. Especially if you are the father of the family, then you are portrayed as a complete doofus while everyone else in the family is smarter than you. Why should I want to identify with such portrayals by buying the products?

Did the Caveman show get canceled or not written because of the writers strike? I oddly liked the commercial but only on the first time run, after that it was to much. Always was looking for the next one.

Every time I am at the corner of Alexis and Secor I yell Modern Floor and no one has yet stepped out the door to come get me. False advertisement I say!!

I get annoyed at the Midas commercial too.

Man...those Rose City Motor ads are the worse. It may be called Rose City but based upon their ads I am sure they don't smell like one. What was up with the young girl in the ad? Pure exploitation. Maybe the demographics he was targeting were pedophiles.
