The Palin Plane Sale - What Really Happened

Palin claim on eBay plane sale doesn't fly

By Jason George and Andrew Zajac | Chicago Tribune correspondents

"JUNEAU, Alaska — When Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin sought to illustrate her frugality and flair to delegates at the GOP convention Wednesday, she described how she disposed of a corporate jet acquired by her unpopular predecessor.

"That luxury jet was over the top," Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, said to loud cheers. "I put it on eBay."

Palin's statement implied the plane was sold through the online auction site revered for empowering millions of small entrepreneurs, and Palin's spokeswoman insisted Thursday that the transaction occurred. But the plane failed to sell on eBay.

Instead, the 23-year-old 10-seat Westwind II was sold in August 2007 for $2.1 million to a Valdez, Alaska, entrepreneur; that's about $300,000 less than a broker's asking price, according to news accounts.

Also, while Palin characterized the plane as an extravagance of former Gov. Frank Murkowski, who arranged for its purchase in November 2005, the plane saw heavy use transporting Alaskan convicts."
END

Typical political puffery or an outright lie? You decide.

ok...

this is by far the stupidest, "news" story i've ever seen.

if you heard palin say "i put it on e-bay", and took it seriously, you're mildly retarded. this joke was understandable by just about anyone without downs.

can we get any more nit picky than this...seriously?

EVEN IF the plane was sold elsewhere, and you took her speach verbatim, she said "i PUT it on e-bay", not "i sold it on e-bay".

seriously people, this is just reeking of desperation.

Almost as desperate as her nomination itself.

In 2 months it will be all over for McCain/Palin, and she can go back to where she came from.

I guess it can be read two different ways. I can be read the way that holland is reading it, or it can be read the way that I am reading it.

If you go back to the sentence that holland just quoted, it says "Palin's statement implied the plane was sold through the online auction site revered for empowering millions of small entrepreneurs", then, as holland quotes "Palin's spokeswoman insisted Thursday that the transaction occurred. But the plane failed to sell on eBay." I read that as the spokesperson saying that the plane didn't sell on eBay but that it did sell.

Obviously the story is all over the web, in some stories the part that holland quoted is written as "Palin's spokeswoman insisted Thursday that the transaction occurred, but the plane failed to sell on eBay."

Not sure which way it was written initially, but from my point of view, whether it was sold on eBay or not, it just means that she did what she could do in order to try and cut unnecessary expenditures from the states budget. We can all sit here and nitpick how it was written, what it means etc, but the fact of the matter is, like her or not, this woman put Alaska's budget into a surplus state in less than 2 years, that alone is commendable whether you like her or not!

They think they're still campaigning in the pre-information age, where they can say anything they want without being called on it. Unfortunately for them, facts are stubborn things.

idiots...

if you list your mom on e-bay, and she doesn't sell, and you say "i put her on e-bay"

ya didn't lie.

learn to read and listen.

She tiptoed around the truth on this one, and technically stayed correct. There's plenty more outright lies to call her on.

how is it "tip toeing around the truth" when basement dwelling liberal blogtards get something wrong and the media jumps on it.

lets say i want to sell my car, i list it on e-bay, it doesn't sell.

later i'm asked what i did with the car, i say "i put it on ebay"

where's the lie?

"i put it on ebay" = i listed it.

palin did indeed list the plane on ebay

did she say "i sold it on ebay"

noooooo

ok then...now get back in your hole lib.

Pink you'll make a story out of every nonissue about Palin won't you? Liberals are the most intellectually dishonest people anywhere.

She did put it on Ebay. It made headlines when she did it too. Leno and everyone was talking about it.

That's not a lie. She never once said it sold, and they've been very open about that fact that it did NOT actually sell on Ebay.

"Palin's spokeswoman insisted Thursday that the transaction occurred. But the plane failed to sell on eBay."

Read this part a little more carefully STiDinOH

Rewrite the sentnce correctly and it makes perfect since. "Palin' spokeswoman isisted Thursday that the transaction occurred, but the planed failed to sell on eBay." "But" is a conjunction and shouldn't be used to begin sentence (with the exception of some good fiction writers). It seems pretty clear to me. The transaction of selling the plane went through, but it didn't go through on eBay.

thank you heyhey for doing that, i would have been much more insulting and the simple facts would have been lost in the tirade.

it isn't that hard of a sentance to read and comprehend, unless of course you are in attack mode and have your tiny brain turned off.

Hey, I never said anyone lied. I was backing up holland's point about the spokeswomen clearly misleading the press with her comments. It's quite obvious

posted by pink_slip on Sep 06, 2008 at 10:39:42 am     #

wow, you still can't read english.

the spokeswomen said both things, not just the first.

please catch up here man this has been explained quite a few times.

she said the plane was listed, but it didn't sell, it sold later through a private broker.

this isn't that difficult. the spokeswoman wasn't being misleading, nobody lied, but it seems people like to over react to bullshit/fluff slander stories.

posted by ST1DinOH on Sep 06, 2008 at 11:54:40 pm     #

STD, nobody said she lied. Why do you keep saying this? Palin was misleading--no doubt. But she's got a lot bigger problems than this.

posted by pink_slip on Sep 07, 2008 at 01:12:41 pm     #

look you fuck bag, the only people "misled" by this are fucking STUPID. if you can't understand simple english then how can you be suprised when you find yourself not understanding things the first time.

you're an idiot.

also, again, learn to read...

it's ST 1 D

as in stoned in ohio you fucking moron,

i'm surprised you don't recognize it, your mom screams it out at least three times a week.

by the way, tell that bitch she owes me money.

"you speak for conservative America"
I wouldn't say that. He ( I assume) speaks for himself and does it in a straight forward way which is fine. But, to me is unnecessarily vulgar and deters from the point.

yeah, i know. i tend to get fired up and let loose with the profanity. i can't help it when some of these little twits start flapping thier cocksuckers. i have no problem with having a civil debate with a civil democrat, but i'll knock a marxist's teeth out. this is why i can't go to bars anymore. i hear people talking all their idiotic shit, i smash a bottle over their heads, i spend the weekend in the bullpen.

had enough of that.

the internet is less expensive in the long run. $20 a month is much cheaper than paying court fines and going to court ordered anger management classes.

i'm fine until these bastards start insulting me, then it's like someone is flipping a psycho switch in my head and i simply must let them know what a filthy whore their mother is.

i'll try to tone it down altogether but i hope you've noticed i do tend to reserve my rude/inappropriate comments for the 3 or 4 "obama youth" trolls that are infesting this site.
