Botched Rossford Amphitheater Project to Face Demolition

http://wspd.com/cc-common/news/sections/local/?newsart=5

The failed Rossford Amphitheatre is about to meet the wrecking ball. The Ohio Carpenter's Council has hired a demolition crew to take down the steel, crunch up the concrete, and level off an earthen mound that was supposed to become a 15,000-seat outdoor amphitheatre. The carpenter's union pension fund loaned just under $2.5 million to the project about a decade ago...which ran into financial and legal trouble. The union bought the land at a sheriff's sale in 2006...and now hopes to recoup some of its losses by reselling it for development. Ron Rothenbuhler of the Ohio Carpenter's Council believes the site is worth more than ever because of the recent opening of the Bass Pro store.

What was the inside scoop on that? Seems like there are only a handful acts that would draw 15,000. Why didn't they turn it into an outdoor church? They seem to have tithing funny money.

what a shame. that site is still about %75 done. it'll probably cost more to demolish it than to finish it and start booking headliners.

i remember how exciting this thing was for kids my age living in perrysburg. the first show was going to be phish. it's sad these governmental douchebags couldn't just set asside thier pride and figure out a way to make it happen. would have been a huge draw for the local economy.

it still could be.

the unions just want to sell the steel while it's high.

Unions = convenient and lazy excuse for everything.

Tell me the cost/productivity of union versus non-union labor. Should be common knowledge along with such sentiments.

Then tell me why if unions are so bad that doctors, lawyers, brokers of all types, accountants, pro athletes, etc. are all in unions.

unions are just a way to extort the companies they work for. no better example of this than the auto unions who've basically killed the big three.

say what you will about unions, but they were a good idea, and they have surpassed a workers rights outlet and become a greedy self servant extortionist entity.

nobody holding a broom deserves $30 an hour and a pension.

There's a great big difference between UAW and the carpenters, so please, lets not campare apple to oranges. Carpenters are SKILLED labor, whom have to go through a 4 year apprenticeship program, they have to be able to work at great heights, etc.
