You've got more info than the TV's had... they didn't have the car make or model (just color and license), and they didn't specify the kid was wearing a Pistons jersey, just a "blue basketball jersey".

I hope they catch the SOB.

The Detroit News has more details than our local news had available. (May be where holly got her info.) I suppose because the child was initially abducted in the Detroit area.

Scary stuff...the mom must be a wreck. The child was wearing only the shirt and diaper, no money, no child safety seat in the car. And its probably a safe bet that the dad is driving erratically.

I hope the child is brought home safely.

At least your posting serves a purpose and is for a genuine cause. Thanks for posting!

Thanks everyone! As a parent, as soon as I heard it, my heart jumped! I actually got my information from the active alerts on the actual Amber Alert site http://www.amberalert.gov/active.htm

It's recently updated saying the guy and child were seen in Rossford at Sonic's, so he's at least been in the area, and may possibly still be around!

I wonder if they caught him. I was in rossford when this came on the radio. Was taking my in-laws to Sonics for the first time. Saw 2 cops rushing past and ended up catching someone across the street from Sonics/Myers. Not sure if that was him or what the story was but was a bit intense. Just hope the little one get's home safe.

The report I saw on television had a banner running across the bottom, and then an announcer came on with info about the car and driver. Why can't they use technology to post a mockup of the vehicle with a Michigan license plate with the license info filled in by computer, and combine this with a view of the driver from side and front as you would see him driving the car. I would think that would be possible with computer technology, and aid anyone who looked for the vehicle and driver. Instead, I "heard" a description on television. That isn't the best use of the technology, IMHO.

A father takes his own child and that constitutes an Amber Alert?
I'd like to know more details before I condem this guy.

hockeyfan...

You mean the details provided aren't enough?

1) Dad assaults mom to steal kid

2) Kid is only wearing shirt and diaper...dad has no other clothing, nor the means to provide any other clothing to the kid (no money with him, etc.). One could reasonable presume that he didn't have any clean diapers with him either.

3) Dad takes kid in car on extended drive, across state lines, with no child seat? (even not counting the fact that he's driving a 17 year old car with expired plates, its ridiculous to be schlepping a 1 year old on highways without a car seat...not safe at all)

Does that sound like an even remotely responsible parent to you?

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that there is a justifiable reason to abduct your own child. That still doesn't absolve you of the responsibility to make sure you child is safe (properly clothed, being safely transported, etc.).

Thank god the child was found and recovered safely though.

Kid's been found

to mom2-What tiny perfect corner of the world do you live in?
Please take a trip to any neighborhood other than your utopia and tell me that you won't find:
kids jumping in cars without car seats or seatbelts,
kids running around in just diapers without clothes or shoes,
some big mouth nasty woman who knows perfectly well that most courts are going to side with her when it comes to children for no more reason than that she is the mother.
Having been on the shortside of divorce with children, I do not agree with any violence against a woman, but I can clearly see the circumstances of a man taking his child when other channels fail.

Uh...yeah. A neighborhood where kids actually wear clothes instead of just diapers, and where one year old children aren't taken on extended road trips along the highway without car seats is a "utopia."

But they really needed a Sonic burger!

Hockeyfan,
I can understand what you're saying and without knowing the entire story you're right, we have no right to condemn the father. It was reported that he assaulted the mother and took the child against her wishes then turned around and called her from a pay phone telling her she'd never see him again, so that's probably why they called the Amber Alert.

I'm just glad the child was found safe!
