Joe getting a media pass on 'drunk driver' that killed his 1st wife?

Why Is Media Allowing Joe Biden to Lie About Drunk Driver Killing His First Wife?
publiusforum.com ^ | 09/21/08 | Warner Todd Huston

Along with the claim that Joe Biden had a "blue-collar" upbringing -- he had a decidedly upper class (though not "rich") childhood -- Joe Biden has for years claimed that his first wife and his daughter were killed by a "drunk driver" in 1972. However, closer examination of the records proves that the man driving the truck that slammed into the Biden family car was never charged with drunken driving. So, why has the media allowed this perception that Biden lost his wife to a drunk driver to persist?

As late as 2007 Biden said that the man who was involved in the fatal crash that killed his wife and daughter was a "guy who allegedly ... drank his lunch" before he got behind the wheel of his truck and in 2001 the TV show Inside Edition aired a tape of Biden saying the truck driver "stopped to drink instead of drive." Additionally, several media outlets have included the drunk driver claim in their bios of the Senator from Delaware.

This drunk driving accusation, though, is simply a Biden creation and every time this claim is uttered it pains the family of the poor, maligned man involved in the tragic accident with Biden's family, truck driver Curtis C. Dunn. Gannett owned DelewareOnline reports the anguish that Biden's continued lie causes the man's family every time it is uttered....

Good point. I can't think of another candidate that's getting a pass for something that happened in the 70s...

Tough call on this. I mean, there's no doubt that the guy suffered a horrendous loss, and that he can be forgiven for wanting to blame someone for these deaths.

Still, if the truckdriver was cleared of wrongdoing, Biden needs to drop the accusations, even backhanded ones like "allegedly drank his lunch instead of eating it." I'm sure that if there was any evidence of drunk-driving, the prosecutors would have been compelled to pursue a court case, given the deaths of family members of a high-profile politician.

Back then if you were only slightly drunk, you didn't get a dui ticket. Now in an accident you are likely to be considered impaired even if you are below the legal limit. Perhaps that is why he didn't get a dui ticket. Is this correct?

Does it really matter if the guy was drunk or not? The bottom line here is the fact he lost a wife and child, and managed to carry on with his life. I wouldn't hold this against him.
I would rather explore things that matter like the fact that McCain got a pass being one of the members of the Keating Five back in the 70's. I really can't believe nobody is looking at this. Or the fact that he graduated 894th out of 899 from the naval academy. Can we afford another marginal intelligence president?

Who here would not assume that it was a drunk driver who killed their spouse rather than it was an "accident". We look for cause from outside ourselves. We don't want to believe that members of our family would be negligent in the business of driving. What Biden did was thoroughly human although we do not allow our leaders that luxury. If this is part of a pattern of lying then I might accept that makes Biden unfit to be President just as I would find McCain unfit for the Presidency if he hopped from bed to bed rather than had just one adulterous affair (that ended in marriage). Give me something more to hold against the man.

Always a Debbie Downer aren't we darky?

From wiki:
...then Biden's wife and year-old daughter were killed in an automobile accident while Christmas shopping in Hockessin, Delaware on December 18, 1972,2 just a few weeks after the election. (Neilia Biden's station wagon was hit by a tractor-trailer as she pulled out from an intersection; the truck driver was cleared of any wrongdoing.)21 Biden's two sons, Beau and Hunter, were critically injured in the accident, but both eventually made full recoveries.2 Biden considered resigning in order to care for them;5 persuaded not to by Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield, he was sworn into office from one of their bedsides.22 The accident left Biden filled with both anger and religious doubt: "I liked to [walk around seedy neighborhoods] at night when I thought there was a better chance of finding a fight ... I had not known I was capable of such rage ... I felt God had played a horrible trick on me."22

Biden began the practice of commuting an hour and a half each day on the train from his home in the Wilmington suburbs to Washington, D.C., which he continues to do.5 In the aftermath of the accident, he had trouble focusing on work, and just went through the motions of being a senator; staffers were taking bets on how long he would last.23[17] As a single father for five years, Biden left standing orders that he be interrupted in the Senate at any time if his sons called.22 In remembrance of the accident, Biden does not work on December 18.24

In 1975, Biden met Jill Tracy Jacobs, who grew up in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania and would become a teacher in Delaware.25 They had met on a blind date with Biden's brother's help though it turned out that Biden had unknowingly fancied the woman, who appeared in a local advertisement.25 Biden would credit her with renewing his interest in both politics and life.26 On June 17, 1977, Biden and Jacobs married.2 They have one daughter, Ashley Blazer (born 1981),2 and are members of the Roman Catholic Church.

Josh you didn't forget about this guy, did you?
Although not a current presidential candidate, Ted Kennedy never has to answer any questions about his cowardly act of murdering MaryJo Kopeckne

Ampie, it would have been manslaughter.

Perhaps maybe do some research before making false claims.

He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene and he made statements to the networks.

It probably springboarded Nixon, the so-called last liberal president, into office.

He should have went to jail and so should Nixon amongst others.

Ahhhhh, feel the liberal love. How typical -an accusing statement filled with hate. Why am I not surprised? It's always attack the poster from the libs. BTW, you might want to talk to that fossilized Dem great statesman 'KKK' Byrd about Klan hats-as a former Grand Wizard, he knows volumes about such things. Oops, forgot-another pass.
