I went to this last year and the year before and will not be going again. While I love Arvel Bird, I found the DJ's tirade against the government tiresome. I don't mind bashing the administration but find another venue for it. To me, it's goes against the policy of "No Indian Policing." When I go to a powwow, I want entertainment, not preaching.

WOW! I was there from the time it opened Saturday until close on Sunday - both years - and I never heard anything like you're referring to.

I'm going to assume by 'DJ' you mean the Master of Ceremonies, which is Jamie Oxendine (Lumbee/Creek Nation), President of the Black Swamp Intertribal Foundation. While Jamie will discuss politics one-on-one, he would not openly voice these issues. It's a firm BSIF rule that there be NO politics at the Gatherings!

The only thing I can think of is that you've confused this one with the one that was held in Maumee (used to be held in Point Place) by another group. In which case, I can't speak for them.

UNLESS....you were talking about the opening ceremonies and honoring the veterans.

Inga; you obviously know nothing about the difference between No Politics and No Indian Politics. You obviously don't the difference between a DJ and a MC either. There is no DJ at this event! Anybody that is American Indian knows that the U.S. Government and even the Canadian Government has treated our people like pure @#$%. That is fact and thus means that is it perfectly logical for American Indians to voice their views on that subject and it not really be political. If not mistaken, the MC presented that we have the great right to love and or hate our country. I think he said something like we do have problems and at times our government sucks but he also said that we have great things to be proud of and one of those is the many rights we have due to the sacrifice of others. If you think either the U.S. Government or the Canadian Government is in great shape and does not need us to make some tirades against them and try and keep them in shape, then you are either a well off mega rich person and the @#$% going on now is nothing to you or you are an idiot. This was a great event and we were very honored to come down from Canada and take part it in.
