Regarding our 12th wedding anniversary trip to LAS this December, we are still pricing our roundtrip tickets. We want to fly 1st class without paying the full fare upfront IF possible...and so far 1st class costs $670.31 (taxes included) per person on NWA. (We can't buy miles because I've only got 4,498 and he's only got 300).
Has anyone successfully experienced getting upgraded upon check-in, and if so, how much did it cost you?

I can't help you on air fare prices - but my sister has worked for American Airlines for over 7 years, and told me that if you are flying cross country, to never use more than one airline. My cousin flew to San Diago recently via U.S.Air & American Airlines - U.S.Air lost her luggage (never was found). My sister told her that's what happens when you try to fly the cheapest way possible. So to save money, she's lost a lot of clothes, etc. The airline will only insure it for $150. unless you have receipts for everything to prove otherwise. They will search for luggage for 5 days (the airline that lost it, only). After that, it goes to Arizona (I think that's where she said) to be auctioned off. My sister said to stay away from Expedia & Priceline, but that Travelocity & some others were ok, but basically - you get what you pay for too.
