Looks like its only available at "Leo's downtown." Anyone know where "Leo's downtown" is? I've never heard of it.

It kinda sounds like someone pet project and a relative is letting them use their restaurant to distribute it. The owner of Leo's is probably hoping this will bring in a few extra customers.

Location of Leo's Book Shop: 333 N Superior St in downtown Toledo.

LOL...Leo's downtown is certainly not a restaurant. Its a bookstore that has been around for ages.

They often stock specialty materials about the Toledo area that some of the bigger chain bookstores don't carry. For example, Leo's was one of only 4 locations in the city that carried a book about the history of the Old West End. (See this reference: http://www.oldwestendtoledo.com/)

Its a longtime local business that tries to promote local items...not some fly-by-night group trying to sucker in customers.

So what? Does that mean he should not try to get people to check it out? Not to mention that Leo's is a downtown staple.

I think adding more outlets are a great thing. I wish that they had left better instructions on how to get it. Also, if someone, anyone wants a little free web space let me know. I'm working on setting up a free web space for local businesses and groups. It will be a part of Toledo Unplugged and I should have something set up in the next 2-3 weeks.

If anyone wants something sooner let me know. You could also leave a message at the podcast number: (419) 464-7952. Just start off by saying this isn’t for the podcast to make sure it doesn’t get edited in.

Publisher is Dennis Hicks who lives on Robinwood Ave. I gave away his phone number with the last copy I had of the Magazine this morning. I picked up my copy at Stella's in Perrysburg.

A web site is under consruction, perhaps Jr. can shed more light since I know Dennis tried to get hold of him yesterday.

I plan to pick up several more copies when I go downtown tomorrow.

The August issue of the new "in Toledo" magazine contains an interview with developer Larry Dillin in "Larry Dillin Sees the Future and it's in Lake Erie West."

The mag contains an article about why the moniker Lake Erie West makes more sense than Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.

Several downtown residents are profiled in "the new downtown" section of the magazine, including the co-owner of the Downtown Latte and the owner of the Swan Creek Candle Co..

Ben Konop contributed a small article about living downtown.

A couple arts-related articles:

Also in the magazine, a couple food articles, including recipes and a wine article.

An article titled "It Takes a Village" is about the St. Clair Village in the Warehouse District.

Excerpts from the article titled "Toledo Church Houses Tiffany Treasures" :

One of the many historic treasures to be found in Toledo is the collection of stained glass windows belonging to the Early Renaissance-inspired First Congregational Church. The renowned artist Louis Comfort Tiffany designed many of the windows in the church, windows that are as stirring for their visual splendor as for their spiritually-based themes.

Founded in 1833, the church is the oldest congregation organized within Toledo's original boundaries.

Some of these windows are described as "jeweled glass" because of a gem-like construction and quality. Upon close inspection, much of the glass appears very thick and roughly chipped into many facets. This gives the windows an entirely different character from hour to hour and season by season.

And other articles exist in the magazine. It contains about 60 pages, and it's quite varied. Most articles are short, one or two pages long.

The September issue of "in Toledo" is available. A few of the article titles:

  • Blues Power - Photographer, music producer, festival promoter and blues musician, John Rockwood is one of Toledo's Renaissance Men.
  • Weird History - Lake Erie West has its share of wild stories, including a bloodless war, a giant bog and at least one head-standing mayor.
  • A Tale of Two Stellas - One is Uptown Perrysburg's place for dining. The other is A Woman of Mystery captured in works of art hung inside the restaurant.
  • Green Toledo - The City of Toledo has been adopting and promoting a combination of programs to protect and enhance our environment.
  • Uptown Mural to Attract Visitors - In early 2006, the Toledo Uptown Association formed a committee to help revitalize the neighborhood with the addition of a large-scale mural.
