I've ordered an item shipped FEDEX signature of addressee required, and wonder why a neighbor can't handle this for me if I make arrangements beforehand and leave a note. They say neighbor cant help. I guess they try 3 times total before you can go to Fedex on Reynolds to pick it up. I have to leave a note saying I will pick it up. Can't think of how to get around taking day off work, or trying to guestamate when packages are usually delivered (time of day)
FedEx package

ID is required if you ordered alcohol. Don't ship a package "signature of addressee required" if your not going to be home. FedEx is liable for packages that fall into the wrong hands.
The last time I declared I was shipping alcohol ( wine to a friend in Florida) FedEx refused to accept the package. The said they would not ship any alcohol anywhere. Has this policy changed?
The shipper would have paid extra for this option, and you generally can't use the waiver to leave it or deliver to a neighbor. Generally, when a seller has been burned enough with credit card chargebacks, they resort to this as it's solid proof of delivery. FedEx would certainly prefer to leave on you porch or drop at a neighbor and save 2 trips back and/or 30 days storage.
There are other options; I am dealing with this EXACT situation today. Came home last night to a "door tag" telling me the package could not be delivered without my signature. You can call and ask that the package be held for you: FedEx is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 7:45 and Saturday from 9:00 to 4:45. Unless you work 6 full days, you might be able to make arrangements to get there during those hours.
Another option is to contact the shipper to ask them to change the shipping restriction (ie., not a "direct" signature, but an "indirect", or one of the other FedEx options.
Yet another option is to ask the shipper to re-route the package to work or another address where someone IS home during the day.
Hope this helps! The FedEx 800 number is on the door tag, but in case you don't have that: (800) 463-3339.
For a while there, it seemed that I was ordering a lot of packages so I just started using my work address as my shipping address whenever I ordered something. This works pretty well unless your job makes you run around to a lot of off-site appointments all day long. Then, you're still sunk. :(
Sorry, this doesn't help you this time, nmorbushomg, but it's a tip to prevent your problem the next time around.
FWIW around Christmas last year I ordered something from FedEx, and they missed their delivery day. Too busy, I guess. Since I was not going to be home the next day, I called and asked if they could reroute the package and they wouldn't do it.
Fedex cannot reroute the package unless the shipper tells them to do so. So if you cpntact the company that you purchased the goods from, and they are willing, that company can then contact fedex and give them the new delivery address and fedex will comply.
As a follow up to my own situation, I contacted fedex and asked them to hold my package for pick up. It is not on Reynolds road, though, but in Northwood on Oregon road. They will hold it for me for five business days, then it goes back to the shipper.
Thanks for the tip about re-routing. I wish FedEx had TOLD me that last year! It was just a stinkin' print cartridge worth $20 in that dumb package.
Yeah, I wouldn't be real happy about going to Northwood. But at least you'll get your package.
You are very welcome. Yep, I wish fedex had been more forthcoming, too.... I had to ask about a bazzillion questions to get that info when I phoned the 800 "customer service" number. I'm motivated to get this package; my bank gave me an ipod for opening an account, and, after being loaded with tunes and podcasts, it's going to a terminal cancer patient to help with meditation and distraction.
LetItBe, what a great thing you're doing. I have no doubt the music will help. Good work!
I got the package earlier than it would of been attempted to be delivered to my house.
I yellowpages.com found the phone number for the 2 FedEx sites(not the Kinko places) in Toledo/Maumee that deal with FedEx ground. As I was tracking the package I called the facility on Holland rd in Maumee, (an 893 phone #), then without a menu I got someone to answer the late afternoon of the day it was arriving in town. He was nice and looked it up on the computer, took a note of the package and my address and the tracking #, then I saw that nite it was entered in as arriving, so I called back at 710am and they had it held already without even 1 attempt to my house. I picked it up at 8am. Great local service avoiding the 1-800 demons.
