Leaf collection

Have any of you Toledo residents gotten your leaves picked up yet by the city? If so, what area are you in?

Wouldn't it be absolutely fantastic if the city had a website somewhere with mention of when to expect leaf pickup?

Yeah, they came by 43606 yesterday. They did a good job.

I had all my leaves stored at the curb so I could use them in the spring for a fire and while I was gone last week, some idiot came and stole them all.
The worst part is that when I called TPD to report it, they just hung up.

I am in 43606 and they have yet to pick my street or neighboring streets up yet.

I live on an uncurbed street in 43623, and they made the first pass last week. However, they put up the "No Parking" signs about ten days prior, so I kept re-raking my piles every day or so. Naturally, they finally showed up on a day I was working, so about half of my leaves blew back onto the yard.

Still, some pickup is better than none, and I do use a lot of leaves for mulch (I put on the mulch blade with the bag and bury my gardens each fall for fertilizer/deep frost cover).

Ok, here's my second try:

I put all my trash at the curb without a bag, then cover it with leaves. The leave collectors come by and just like magic, all the leaves and trash is gone.

I also live in 43606. I've seen them down a few streets, but they haven't cleaned my street. Progress seems to be slow.

I'm trying to compost this year. Made four cells by running plastic coated wire from my chain link fence to the wire fence my mom put around her garden and left up. I have four cells with three filled with leaves. Move each cell over one spot every two weeks (to turn the pile). When I first went to turn the leaves I found they were warm (not hot) so I guess there is some action going on. I cover each cell with a plastic tarp, and use a few stones to make sure it doesn't blow off. Supposed to kept compost moist, not wet. When I take the covers off I find the center is quite dry, although edges are wet through the exposed fence. I notice the feral cats like to lay on the piles (maybe they like the warmth caused by decomposition). No smell so far, and there does seem to be some breakdown occurring.

They came on the last day for my zip. Good Job.

My wife and I wish we had to wait for the leaf pickup. Every year they do 43613 first, and every year only half the leaves are off the trees. Then it's at least a month before they get back to do a second pass - if they come back at all.

When they come they do a good job. I just wish they would rotate the schedule year to year.

Ha! The leaves fell later than usual on my street. The "first pass" is always earlier than we would like, but at least they get about 50% of the leaves. Not so this year. They came through with nothing more than street sweepers, and were done with the entire street in about an hour. The next day was rainy and blustery... the leaves finally fell. Now we have massive mountains all along the curbs, and it will be mid-December before the second pass.... yep, MoreThenRhetoric, if they come back at all. If the snow flies early, then those trucks get converted to salters and plows. Let's hope that doesn't happen this year. (I used to live in a desert that abutted the coast... no grass to mow, no leaves to rake, no snow to move... but, then again, no Spring Fever!!!! Is it spring yet?)
