For the life of me I cannot understand why all the problems of Toledo are being blamed on one man-Carty. Toledo is faced with dwindling revenues due to many factors, including:job layoffs, factory closings, home foreclosures and people just simply moving away. The global recession is taking a heavy toll on not just Toledo but cities nationwide as well as the federal government. All of these events are far beyond one man's control. Even the God-like Mr. Finkbeiner. Why we have so many people crying for his removal from office and blaming him for Toledo's budget mess is just plain stupid. Many people laugh at Opal Covey for claiming to have God on her side. It seems that a lot of people must think Carty IS God if he is the one to blame for the mess the whole world is in. Perhaps Carty and Opal should run together as a team. Then if Opal would mess up Carty could be blamed.

This was far from a negative attack, Harley. All Billy did was link to your own repeated shilling posts for Opal. Moreover, since you describe yourself as Opal's campaign manager, you are in essence a public figure, and you should develop a thicker skin for the real harshness that political operatives face from the press and opponents.
Finally, there is the matter of Netiquette. There develops in many online communities a suspiciousness of members who use boards and blogs as their own personal platforms through which to promote their causes. While I do not think you have crossed the line into full-blown spammer mode, a great deal of your time at TT is spent in promoting the candidacy of Opal Covey. I suspect that at least a few ToledoTalkers have you pegged as little more than an Opal-spammer.
Just my nickel's worth of advice.

Now you defend him. Have you lost your short term memory?You would be a great person to blog. Go to your desktop and open the "notepad" icon. Type and keep all your thoughts there. It is where it belongs.
It's my position that by refusing to list any specific qualifications or experience that Harley has by default established Opal has no qualifications. It would then seem to me, her endorsement of Opal is worth no more than what it cost her to post it here.
Back in the day there was an old saying, "Put up or shut up". Now I myslef am too polite to say that, but a lesser man might. Yes siree, a lesser man mightr indeed..........

Since you are so passionate about Opal becoming mayor, please take the time to outline her position on the major issues as well as her ideas for improving the city. Listing any experience that she may have with budgeting and management would also help people make their decision.
This would be much more appreciated than the repetitive "Opal is a follower of God" reason that you keep giving. I look forward to reading an informative post from you.

I agree, he is not as bad as people say. He is passionate about the city and cares about it and has done a lot of good. I would rather have Carty than a zero like Ford.

I voted for Jack Ford. I think that the reason he was not elected (as an incumbent) was the American Nazis showed up on his watch two weeks before the election. They would be much more effective than TBT at getting Carty out of office. Anytime Toledo has a "race riot" the incumbent is f__ked. Of course, people will always say it was because Ford "did nothing" rather than the "race riot" occurred.

Can you off the top of your head (although I admit I had to go on Wiki to do this) name anything any Mayor of Toledo has done? What did Donna Owens do (besides look pretty)? It seems that most of the things that get done evolve rather than land full blown from the Mayor's acts. When s/he act then we seem to have problems. I'm looking forward to the next mayor making a fool of himself in this "new" economy.

I can name a few, he started care net, he managed to get some roads paved in East Toledo, he was very supportive to the families of the guys that died building our new bridge, and help negotiate with Owens on tuition for the children of those men who died.
Many people think he didn't do anything just because he wasn't outspoken like Farty, he may not have acomplished as much as people would have liked, but he cared and he didn't embarras this city numerous times like Farty has.
I remember reading about Ford heading for the Hi Level Bridge on foot to jump and instead when the police were called and found him he was at Frisch's feeding his face. That was before he was mayor but he couldn't even kill himself properly. He even screwed THAT up.
Wow, Harley, that was a hateful post. Why not be positive instead and provide some of the requested information regarding Opal Covey.
Harley - you've proven yourself to be pretty much worthless when it comes to Mayoral discussion. Why not STFU?
I am wondering...why can't Opal come online and reveal her plans and communications to God herself? Why does Harley do all her work. Is it because she does not have a computer. Great! That's what we need on the 22nd floor. Another computer illiterate who does not have email nor would know how to use it if they did. But what the heck...why would she need a computer? There is only 1 computer needed to run the city finances and that is sitting on one persons desk with limited access. Opal can be put on a need to know basis like our current Mayor who doesn't understand how bills are paid in the city.
Hate to tell everyone this, but Harley-the last person I want to defend-is correct on that Ford suicide story. He was hopped up on drugs at the time (supposedly prescription). There were many stories like this,(one I remember he was stumbling around a public street naked or in his underwear) and all were stifled/buried by the Blade and media. It's said that the cops came to his house more than once for charges of physically abusing both his wives, too (same as Carty).
And, no, I have no hard evidence of any of that, they're urban legends of sorts, the stories have been around forever. Same with some (hot) rumors/stories about Donna Owens. There have been many politicians through the decades in town that the media here covered up for.
The story I was talking about concerning Jack Ford WAS in The Blade several years ago.
Harley, instead of hate mongering against someone who is not even a candidate in the upcoming election why not answer the questions posed to you regarding Ms. Covey?
Now that is a highly intelligent answer which will sway votes towards Ms. Covey.

I can't believe the amount of time wasted on Opal Covey. Scrutinize the legitimate candidates: Bell, Konop, Moody, Wilkowski, and possibly our beloved Carty.
IMHO it hasn't really been about Opal Covey for quite some time. It HAS been about "calling out" someone whu makes the most ludicrous and insane posts reagrding Covey. I completey agree making Covey the issue is a waste of time. But wanting someone to put up or shut up is not by itself all that unusual.
Suppose for a minute that I started rambling posts/threads about UFO's. Further suppose that I allow that I have seen them here in Toledo and that I could prove it. Now if this went on and on with me making all these claims, how long do you suppose it would be before people started challenging my assertions? If people were going to give their time in reading my claims, they would WANT and be ENTITLED to some kind of proof.
Perhaps it's not the greatest analogy ever but it really is the same thing as wanting Harvey to put up or shut re: Opal Covey.
So again, I don't think it's about Opal. I think it's about challenging someone (Harley) to back up their claims, put their money where their mouth is, put up or shut up, call it whatever you like.

Moody is a crooked realtor, Wilkowski is another shyster lawyer, Bell is an Obama clone, Konop is nothing but a grandstander, we all know what Carty is and Opal is a far out NUT. Yes that's right I said she is a NUT. There is no way that I could vote for any of these people who are currently or will soon be running for mayor. All the posts I have made in the past supporting Opal for mayor I want to distance myself from. Why I ever thought for a minute she is a credible candidate for mayor I cannot explain. It must have been the cold winter weather was getting to me when I first came up with that crazy idea. At this point in the Toledo mayoral race I just don't give a damn which one of them wins because none of them is fit to hold the office.

Honesty is the best policy and to be honest I don't care one way or the other how the mayor's race turns out. They are all interested in one thing and one thing only: their own self interest. Toledo will never be any better until a quality candidate steps up to the plate and gets elected. Pretty hard to do in this good ol' boy city.
By the way where is Andy Douglas when we need him?
