Any suggestions as to where the best Reubens in Toledo can be found?
Reubens might be my favorite food, but kinda scared now after eating one at Al Smith's Place. Beyond the fact me and my wife were at least 30 years younger than everybody else there, the waitress who brought out our Reubens was coughing, and now I have a sore throat and all.
Looking for a good place for Reubens without the germs...
Cousino's Navy Bistro at The Docks has a pretty good Reuben. I thought the best one I had in Toledo was at the old Chez Vin on Woodville Road (Oddly enough, owned by the Cousino family also). Nick and Jimmy's has a good one. Glass City Cafe downtown on Jackson and 11th has a pretty good Reuben.
Gumpys downtown has a seeeeriously good one. Homemade corned beef and really excellent rye.
The Reuben is my husband's favorite sandwich - I'll have to monitor the responses and see if there are any here that he hasn't tried!
He mentioned that Zacharya's has a good one. (Small local place on Alexis Rd, close to Secor. 3455 W Alexis Rd)
I'm not sure what his "favorite" place to get one is - will have to double-check with him.
Too bad Brauer's isn't still around. AMAAAAZING Reuben!
The Blarney has a great turkey Reuben. I'm sure the regular Reuben is just as good.
door st. cafe and the whitehouse inn both have great rubens
Trotters on Heatherdowns, the best I ever had.
I'll second what swantucky said.City Hall on Reynolds along with their excellant Margs.
I have to put in a word for Big Apple Deli.
Or Posner's downtown,THAT was great corned beef!!
Was Brauer's that deli near Monroe & Sylvania by Toledo Hospital? I loved that place's Rueben sandwich too.
Brauers was at the Colony by Monroe and Central.
Yes -- the Colony. I loved their Rueben Sandwiches.
Doc Watsons puts out a great Reuben. My next choice is Cracker Barrel in Maumee. Hated to see Brauers close...likewise Linck's Cafeteria.
I had a Ruben from The Blarney Irish Pub
today and it was really good.
I'd recommend it.
I'm on a Ruben roll. I tried Grumpy's today. While it was very good, I prefer the bread and meet from the Ruben at the Blarney Pub.
Next up is a visit to either the cardiologist or Big Apple Deli.
If you love reubens, then you have to stop at Zingerman's the next time you visit Ann Arbor. Their reuben has won tons of awards (beat out some of the best NY reubens a few times), and is by far the best I have ever tried. It is pricey, but there is nothing that can compare to the layers of flavor provided by the Zing's reuben. God, I love that sandwich.
Hungy I re-opening in Sylvania, Reubens will rule
