Kudos to the Lucas County Auditor's office and Anita Lopez for the two new tools on the AREIS online website. One shows your current property taxes, percentages and dollar amounts, and where they go. The other calculates how much in taxes you will pay if property tax levies that are on the upcoming ballot all pass.
This Blade article gives more detail as well as how to obtain the information if you don't have a computer.
To see your information, go here and enter either your name or address. After selecting your property, the DATA tab has the two new tools highlighted.Access the AREIS site to see the dollar amount you pay. Here are the property tax percentages for a Toledo resident :

Special Assessments :
This section of the AREIS site will give you the tax dollar amount you pay for the projects related to your community. Based upon my Toledo address, the projects are :
- T.A.S.D. - Mosquito
- Street Services 2 & 3 - Toledo
- Lights Basic - Toledo
- Tree Maintenance - Toledo
Levy Estimator
For each levy on this November's ballot, the AREIS site will show the current taxes you pay for that levy, the new tax amount you'll pay if that levy passes, and the total tax increase per year if all four levies pass. The Lucas County levies are :
- Toledo Lucas-County Public Library - 5 Year Replacement levy; Estimated to generate $18,315,909 annually. Takes the place of 2 expiring 1 mill levies from 1997 and from 2003.
- Metroparks Toledo Area - 10 Year Replacement levy; Estimated to Generate $12,852,698 annually. "Replaced" levy began in 1998.
- Center of Science and Industry (COSI) - New 5 year "operating" levy; Estimated to generate $1,556,852 annually.
- Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) - Replacement Levy; Estimated to Generate $11,438,386 annually. Replaces levy originally began in 1997.

Actually, I was just thinking this morning that I'd like to know a little more about the breakdown of where my property tax goes. You provided this at the perfect time!
Will definitely help once election time rolls around - if all the levies in my area (Sylvania Township), my taxes will increase by an estimated $318. Definitely makes you think carefully about each individual levy choice.
