Oct 31, 2007 Toledo City Paper article titled Carmen's sultry, scandalous performance is ideal for deflowering opera virgins

The TCP article also includes the "Five tips to enjoying your first opera" :

1. Go to our website ( www.toledoopera.org ). There is a synopsis of the story, audio samples and a lesson plan (intended for teachers, but useful to all).

2. Come to the pre-opera lecture an hour before the performance. It's not boring. It's not opera 101. It's just fun information that, once you get in your seat, will help you enjoy the opera more.

3. Have a glass of wine. Whatever you're doing, it makes it better.

4. Come with friends. Opera is a unique and special experience and it's better shared.

5. Get dressed up. You don't have to, but there aren't many places where you can go and make a date night or a special night out of it. Definitely for the guys, tell her she's going to a tractor pull and then take her to the opera. She'll be really impressed and think 'This is a classy guy!"

Carmen will be performed at the Valentine Theatre on :

  • Sat, Nov 3 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Fri, Nov 9 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sun, Nov 11 at 2:00 p.m.

Cost: $29 - $95.
