I'm sick of hearing about that teen who shot and killed Robert Dressel......... who needs a fair trial and didn't know he was a cop.....okay ....im sorry...policeman or not...you shot and killed someone....you need to pay for your actions. I think he should be tried to the fullest for his actions....just my opinion, how do you feel?

Not really sure...bad parenting? I dont know... I mean growing up when I was a teen I wouldn't even have known where to get gun...and these days parents are buying them for there collections. Remember on the news a week ago when they found that kid who's mom had purchased all those guns?

I had guns as a kid too but it’s hard to comprehend the level of neglect and mistreatment that could cause an impressionable young mind and soul to do what this kid did with his.
Single parenting is tough. Especially when you're working. You can't control the kind of kids you child's with, and he might have to "go along to get along". I'm not saying he is blameless, but when we gamble with human life (which is what we do when we make the odds "long" by being a single parent) is it so unbelievable things will go badly?

Lot's of teens have single parents and they don't shoot a cop, or anybody else. This guy is a serial delinquent with a record of assaulting police and bucking authority. He had no family connections apparently as when he was arrested he didnt call his mommy, he called his probation officer. Send him to jail and throw away the key.
Max has his finger on the essential truth of this terrible affair. Once Jobe pulled that trigger the consequences were inescapable. If Jobe thinks his probation officer is his family, then I personally welcome him into the penal system, since that's apparently his desired home.
The facts are not in dispute. Jobe killed Dressel. The last time I checked, there were serious consequences for murder in our society. Jobe should be thankful we're producing consequences in THIS fashion, since there is a significant and historical sentiment that says he should just get two in the back of the head instead.
I don't feel good at the moment, but even when in good health I feel no charity whatsoever for a 15-yr-old who chooses to murder on the streets like he's in some depraved video game. He destroyed something that cannot be rebuilt. He took Human life. If he had so little regard for Human life, he should have saved up a little money then moved to China, Indonesia or Pakistan, where his sentiments are more widely held.
I think the kid was a drug dealer or associated with them, that might be the reason he had a gun on him. This might be an issue of the legality of what Governor Schwarzenegger called a "leaf."
Where are the peeps talking about victimless crimes being escalated into ones with victims?

See above comments. It is my belief that, by definition, killing someone constitutes “mental illness”. It is also my belief that he got caught up in the dredges of urban life that glorify such behaviors.

About the only thing I know for sure is that the environment plays a much larger role in shaping a person's behavior than most people believe. Take anyone here and lock them up in a mental institution for a year or so and that person will begin to develop a mental illness due to the environment - he's surround by crazy people, and things that become normal for him are not normal or unremarkable in the outside world.
Nasty rumors have it that this kid is done. He isn't fit for society, and until he's rehabilitated he is a danger to others. And, as Max points out, the people that helped Jobe become the poster child for the right to choose movement are still out there.

GraphicsGuy, Jobe's lawyer is doing what she is supposed to do: represent her client vigorously. If she ever goes to the prosecutor's office she will act just the opposite.
Dressel is dead, and isn't here to defend himself. Jobe is alive, and can any say damn thing he choses. It will be up to the jury to make a final determination. Baronas' job is to "muddy the waters". But I wouldn't be surprised if Dressel's widow gives her a black eye some day.

I've been hearing that Jobe's call to his parole officer contained his admission that he just shot a cop, or something like that realization. We'll see if this is true and if it is also admitted as evidence.
Even that aside, no one is seriously going to side with some gun-toting punk that he was only defending himself ... against a police officer. To think that that's likely is to open the door to all manner of similar defenses. "The lighting was dim, so I couldn't see their uniforms, and traffic noise was loud, so I couldn't hear their orders. So I fired on them in self defense." What. A. Crock. Of. Shit.
Taking this tack is Baronas' mistake. However, she doesn't have any other defense for Jobe, that I can see from the reporting.
Jobe is receiving all the defense and due process that he's entitled to. However, he's guilty as can be, and he's undoubtedly going to pay for being a successful murderer.
You know how many times people impersonate being a police officer? Dressell was dirty. He confiscated drugs for himself to use or to sell. I've seen it people I know have seen it. It just wont surface because they want to make it look like Jobe killed a hero.
And whats with this dare to go to the trial an say dirty pigs like dressell? What will happen? Not a dayum thing. Freedom of speech. What you think i'll get my face kicked in? I'd love to see that. Maybe we can expose more dirty toledo cops by doin this...

Blade reported that a guilty verdict was returned on Jobe at 11:15 PM Friday night. No one can complain that the jury didn't deliberate long enough. I remember reading somewhere that a jury's decision was questioned because they returned a verdict after "only" three hours.
I remember when I was on a jury. Two guys were each charged with three counts of theft. We took our job seriously. We deliberated, we tried to put things together. We asked to see the transcipt, and were told there wasn't one yet. We were instructed by Judge Ruth Franks to rely on our "collective memory". We still couldn't come to a conclusion. We told the judge we couldn't decide, and asked if we could be declared a "hung" jury.
She told us that wasn't possible, to go back and come to a decision. They sent out for hamburgers for us. We finally decided, but not happily. Guilty on one count, not guilty on the second, and "nolo contendere" on the third for each man. The judge told us she would have ruled the same way, and thanked us for our efforts. If we'd had access to the transcript we probably would have found them guilty on three counts, but when there is doubt you give the guy a break. I am sure that people in the jury room bent over backwards to give Jobe a break, but they probably found the evidence overwhelming (that they could "collectively" remember).

Oh, the above trial for theft ended about 4 PM, and we deliberated until about 8 PM. We returned a verdict about 8:15 PM on a Thursday.

Although I don't feel a possible 18 years is long enough, the jury is to be commended for it's findings.
At least, it'll keep the pucking funk off the streets for a while.
Of course, had the justice system done it's job during the punks numerous previous legal run-ins, Officer Keith would still be going home to his wife and kids each day.

You’re right that there are good and bad in any job. But, you don’t have to defend Jobe. He had professionals represent him in a court of law and was convicted by a jury of his peers. Any way you slice it, Jobe is an admitted and officially convicted murderer. Whether or not the cop was good or bad, he’s dead and Jobe killed him.
Jobe has a long history of run ins with the police. One in which he elbowed a female (what a manly thing to do)cop in the face and knocked her down. Now, who is paying for his incarceration? You and me. He hasn’t been sentenced yet, but if he gets 20 years it costs the taxpayers about half-million dollars. If Jobe stayed in school and out of trouble, by the time he’s forty, he could have made a half mil and contributed to society not been a drain on us.
And Dressell coulda been out doin somethin important rather than fukin with some kids smokin weed.. He got what was comin to him... u fuk over them north enders enough you'll get got....
Maybe someday, if you live long enough, which doesn’t appear to be likely given your attitude and disrespect fot the law, you will understand.
