Places to buy furniture

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if I could get some suggestions about where to buy upholstered furniture in Toledo. We're looking for either a pair of nice lounge chairs or maybe a sectional. Our tastes are definitely more modern a la Room and Board. We'd get Room and Board, but the closest store is Chicago and they charge $189 for shipping, which takes 8 weeks. We've looked at La-Z-Boy, Ethan Allen, Value City Furniture and Contemporary Interiors, but no dice so far. Everything is too poorly constructed or is not our style. Honey I'm Home has some stuff that is more in our range, but they have to order from NC, which takes a while. Any suggestions?

Oh, and we are looking for something nicer than IKEA (which we have enough of already).

We purchased new family room furniture from England 2 1/2 years ago and have been very happy with it. The furniture gets a lot of heavy use (2 kids, dog, etc.) and has held up wonderfully.

http://www.englandfurniture.com/

They have a variety of styles available, and I seem to recall plenty of modern/contemporary offerings. Located hear Franklin Park (Westfield, whatever you want to call it).

You pick which style you want, what fabric type/pattern, and they deliver it to you within 21 days. Not a bad deal at all. Couldn't hurt to drop in and take a look to see if anything there would meet your needs.

There is Ashley Furniture in the Spring Meadows Shopping Center. They have a very large selection and their prices are pretty nice!
You can take a peek at what they offer at

Honey I'm Home is a great local store. You can buy custom upholstered furniture there, along with stuff to decorate your home. I have purchased much of the furniture in my place from there.

PS. It's early - I didn't read the entire post. It took about a month to get my stuff from Honey I'm Home. Not quick, but it is well made.

You could also try the Crate & Barrel spinoff called CB2. Ordered my bed from there. It took one week to ship and is very good quality.

We recently picked up some amazing Danish modern furniture at Wildwood Antiques. (1244 Corporate-Trust Drive, Holland, OH 43528 (419) 243-1800) The pieces had been in storage when with the original owner, so other than being a little dusty they were perfect. They occasionally get in really nice pieces by Eames, etc.

You could also try http://www.restorationhardware.com/

They say between 1-2 weeks on stocked fabrics and 45 days on the custom stuff.

jhostetler,
I would love to be able to get some stuff from the modern section of Wildwood Antiques, but find them to be a bit overpriced. I have a nice Eames LCW that I scored at an estate sale and would love to go with a midcentury theme. Was your purchase there pretty reasonable?

I've seen some beautiful stuff in garage sales (but still too expensive for me). One fellow had made his own bed, and office furniture. I remember a fellow in the South End who used to custom make stuff to the design of the buyer. I remember a bedstead that he had just finished (he wanted $300, and this was 20 years ago).

I wonder if any local craftsmen could fit your need if you're willing to wait a month. Especially if you designed or had a picture of what you wanted, and could check on the progress weekly to see if was turning out as you wanted. It would certainly cut your shipping costs.

Ace_Face,
Yeah... I think the prices really depend on the piece. We are doing a mix of old & modern (by modern I mean mostly the Danish-modern stuff). We picked up a really beautiful antique hutch for only $125, but also got a set of sideboards or credenza (whatever you call them) by a well-known designer (Milo Baughman) and ended up paying $950. The sideboards are what I mentioned above, being in perfect condition, so it's definitely a case of 'you get what you pay for'.

I had a VERY bad experience with Honey I'm Home. CB2 sounds interesting....

Maybe I will try Wildwood again. I haven't actually tried to purchase anything from the guy that owns it since he was at his location on Reynolds Rd. A dining room set on display there caught my attention. Asked how much he said "Three." Meaning $3,000. I don't mind sellers swinging for the fences, but that was ridiculous. Especially since he had told be that it just came out of an estate sale in Point Place (where he couldn't have paid more than $500 for it).

Poverty Barn has some decent slipcovered sofas that you can change the fabric, so you'll never have a dirty couch unless Steve comes over. Steve.

Check out Dari Furniture on Dorr street. They carry a line called EQ3 which has a lot of contemporary styles and selections with reasonable prices. I bought a sofa and a chair from them and it is really better quality than Ikea. I end up picking my own color and fabric. they both look great!
eq3's web site is www.eq3.com
