Ive seen you post twice now that you pray it wasnt the husband that had anything to do with this -

Is there something that you know above and beyond the newspaper and local TV stories that would spur these implications?

I'm sure it was the husband,or he had something to do with it. I mean isn't that what Lifetime TV network teaches us?

stooks - I'd lol at your comment, except its such an awful situation that I can't bring myself to crack a joke or lol. ;)

I can't stop thinking about her and her family - I hope that this story turns out to have a happy ending.

And we really shouldn't be dragging her husband into suspicion - I know that its the first thing that jumps into anyone's mind, but I've not heard or seen anything that would even remotely indicate that he's being considered. Let's show the poor man a little consideration and not publicly speculate about him (without any declaration by the police)...he has a missing wife and baby, in addition to a child at home to comfort.

I agree, Mom2,until the police give us a reason to think differently, her husband needs support and prayers right now not suspicion.

I hope things turn out okay but the longer she is missing the less likely a happy outcome. It is such a sad story. From what I have heard, she is a nice lady. Prayers for her safe return.

Law Enforcement should be tracking her credit cards and ATM-Bank card for any activity the past couple days.

I noticed this story got mention on Court-TV Friday night.

News reports say that SOMEONE had become aggressive towards this lady somewhat recently. Also mentioned, is this lawsuit filed against her last week.

Are these 2 reports related or unrelated ? Meaning....is the person that supposedly got aggressive with her, the same person that filed the lawsuit against her ?

I just read the story in the blade

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071207/NEWS03/71207001

Sounds like there may be no foulplay involved after all. First she takes a settlement of $10,000 that was due to a client. Then, she leaves her office to attend a case in court, which never was scheduled. Maybe she is the next "runaway bride". It was nice to hear that she behaved just like a politician and tried to get out of some tickets with her title.

Sounds like there is much more here than meets the eye. When you play with fire, you could get burned.

here's the latest from the Blade...

A piece of luggage may be missing and there was some money withdrawn from an account.

But neither of these two things rules out anything. Judge McConnell's statements in this are, to me, heartwrenching...

I tuned in to their morning show and theyre talking about everything BUT this story, with a trailer down at the bottom saying:

BREAKING NEWS... KMH found, local authorities are having a news conference in 10 min.

Later it says 'local authorities are having a news conference NOW!!!

WTF!!! They have time to toss up a streamer, but cant get anyone down to the press conference???

Didn't she also have IRS problems? She owed more than even Copeland did, when the Blade did the story a while back. All the classic symptoms are here for some kind of serious problem-erratic behavior, money problems, dissappearances, allegations of misconduct. Hope she does something about it.

posted by CharlieA-Z on Dec 08, 2007 at 01:50:17 pm     #

Did I read the story right that she called her husband on Thursday afternoon to say that she had been kidnapped? So why was the Judge making comments on Friday that if she was away willingly, she should contact her family? His son-in-law forgot to mention the call?

Also, worth noting that a very good friend of Ms. McConnell told me that Ms. McConnell's brother lives in Atlanta.

posted by Ace_Face on Dec 08, 2007 at 03:38:54 pm     #

It's really coming undone now. According to the blah, the husband said that a piece of luggage is missing, her debit card withdrew a large amount of money the same night she was missing, and one of his credit cards is missing. Now she appears in Atlanta? Sounds like the runaway bride is carrying someone else's baby. Can't wait to hear this complete story.

Hopefully with Karyn's help, authorities will be able to put together a composite of these guys quickly; so people in Atlanta can start looking for these (phantom) people.

"Sounds like the runaway bride is carrying someone else's baby"

I'm inclined to agree. This woman had a lot of problems brewing from the sounds of it and when you piece everything together, it doesn't look like a kidnapping to me. Why would there be a large sum of money withdrawn and missing luggage if she had been kidnapped? I think she got in way over her head. I mentioned the possibility of another man's child to a friend this morning and she said she thought the same thing. I wasn't aware of her having IRS problems or having a brother in Atlanta but this only adds fuel to this hypothetical fire.

I am relieved to hear she's been found and is (seemingly) okay. No one needs a 'Scott Peterson' case at the holidays or at all for that matter.

No matter what's really happened abduction or phantom abduction, it can be dealt with because she's back safe and sound...everything else is gravy.

My heart goes out to her kid, her and her family. I hope they get the help they need.

I don't think her husband knew she was o.k. because he looked awful mad on tv jumping around and yelling in his church on Sunday.

None the less, we did learn that the kidnappers had a "kidnapping for dummies" book.
Step 1-for getting revenge at a judge, wait for years, then grap the judge's pregnant daughter.
Step 2-Not only take the daughter, but her car. Place victim in van and follow van with victim's car.
Step 3-Get scared when you get on news and dump victim at busy amusement park. Leave victims car nearby.

I know I should have said this when I first 'had the feeling' - I smell a rat.

Her husband said on the news last night that the same people that were calling the Judge had been calling him, that "they sounded the same." Certainly, both parties reported this to the phone company & police and there was a tap/traps/register put on the lines, right? After all, to threaten or otherwise intimidate a judge is a Federal offense - we are not messing with the Toledo Muni Code here. (Sounded the same? Huh?)

Uh huh.

Doesn't Judge McConnell run the housing-slumlord thing - the judge that does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING excepts warns slumlords over and over and over and...

Sympathy?

The Judge is a no-nonsense type of guy with a finely tuned BS detector. That's why I am surprised he is willing to go on news programs, etc. because he must know that the story sounds fishy and he risks looking foolish later.

Meanwhile, the circumstances keep piling up. From today's Blade:

"Sergeant Pierce said that Cobb County police have Ms. McConnell Hancock's car and that it will be processed by either his department or the FBI.

"It all depends on the statements she's made," Sergeant Pierce said.

"If she sticks to her story about being kidnapped, then it would be processed like any other piece of evidence."

Chief Navarre said he had no comment on the case but Toledo police likely would issue a news release today.

Scott Wilson of the FBI office in Cleveland said that if someone is abducted and taken across state lines, it falls under federal statutes.

"But at this time, we're letting the Toledo police work this out. … At this point in time, they've been the lead agency in this whole case from the start."

BTW, what does it cost to drive two large vehicles to Atlanta, with gas at $2.75 or so per? Her husband said last night the purpose of the "kidnapping" was to separate her from her family for a few days? I'll bet a months pay this is a party/road trip gone completely haywire.

alledgedly, these people were paying the judge back for something he did 8 years ago? Good Grief, he must have given someone a free ride to Cedar Point because all they did was to give his daughter an all expense paid trip to Six Flags in Atlanta. The sad part is that it was all for not, because she couldn't ride anything while she's pregnant.

Free ride to Six Flags in Atlanta, $575
All day ride pass to Six Flags, $49
Finding out you can't ride while pregnant, priceless

They should have gotten her a gift certificate to Costco instead.

As of 6pm, this is getting really good. This is better than any reality show.

I just saw that she was able to make a call, at a payphone in a resturant, to her husband while she was in "kidnapped" status. Why didn't she call 911? Why didn't she run? If she was in a public place, why couldn't she get away?

Her husband knows that she is lying. That explains why he was jumping around and yelling on Sunday. I don't know where he was, but it looked like a rented strip mall store for a flea market.(repeated comment-I know, but I didn't get a response the first time I posted it.)

The 1-white kidnapper was described as looking almost like a pirate. His accomplice is a midget with a glass eye. The really weird part, is that the midget was wearing sandals and he had 6 toes on his left foot.

From the Cobb County Department of Public Safety, Incident Narrative Report:

"During my brief conversation with Ms. Hancock, she advised me that she did not know where her vehicle was and and the suspects only described at this time as two males and a black female told her she would have to find it."

All of this 'drama' and she's concerned about her car? Her car is the most 'note-worthy' item discussed with Ofc. Gaynor?

No, do NOT jail her for her 'false report', etc., Instead, give her an extended stay at the Graybar Hotel just for being so utterly friggin STUPID.

Yank that Bar card too!

(And no, Navarre most likely will NOT give her a free pass. Remember the tantrum she threw awhile back when she parked illegally, then tried to 'name-drop' using her daddy as the reason Officer Friendly should ignore her parking illegally? Let's hope everyone remembers that little bout of abuse of power when the time comes!)

And why am I thinking that the Reverend(?) is in on this somehow?

Even better that it was 2 white guys! Not only can they not kidnap correctly, but if their intent was to "get back at the judge" they must be stupid and blind. She doesn't look anything like her father and it took them all the way to Atlanta to figure out that it wasn't a fat guy, but a pregnant woman.

As Toledo City Council members, Karyn McConnell Hancock and Phil Copeland oversee a government that collects and spends tax dollars. But the IRS believes the two don’t pay enough tax dollars themselves. The Internal Revenue Service has filed tax liens against Ms. McConnell Hancock and Mr. Copeland for unpaid income and business taxes, records show.

The IRS says Ms. McConnell Hancock owes the federal government $83,717, while it wants $61,680 from Mr. Copeland. And the state of Ohio wants $5,031 in taxes from him as well. Ms. McConnell Hancock said the IRS audited her law firm and herself last year and revaluated her income for 2001 and 2002. “They’ve obviously landed on the high side,” she said.

“We do require city employees to have criminal background checks, and we shouldn’t be exempt from that process either,” Ms. McConnell Hancock said. Ms. McConnell Hancock is a local attorney who was appointed to council in 2003 and was elected to retain her seat in November, 2003.

With so few council candidates responding, The Blade began checking public sources to gather information about the candidates’ financial affairs and discovered the tax liens against Ms. McConnell Hancock, Mr. Copeland, and Mr. Shankland.

In a New York Minute! The Nearly-Reverend Jesse and Fat Al (probably the 2 biggest bigots on earth) would be on it like flies on ...well...you know.

Recompensing the city for incurred costs regarding the case would be a 'start' for her making some amends. Friggin' city's in the hole already and she has to go pulling this crap!

Now, remember folks: KM-H claimed it was two white dudes and a black woman who abducted her.

She's an equal opportunity fabricator, and don't you forget it.

This jumped out at me from the CNN story:

Police would not discuss a motive, but Hancock's husband Lawrence Hancock said his wife has been having psychological problems for several years.

"She experienced a meltdown and attempted to handle those matters without the assistance of professional help or others. Karyn elected to leave everything because she felt that she was unable to continue," he said.

Their child is about 3 isn't he? I wonder if she fell into some post partum depression after he was born and then had to go off her meds once she became pregnant again. She definitely has some mental problems to pull a stunt like this. I hope that they can get her help but also hope that she is held accountable for her actions.

Get her help? How the hell did she practice law for so many years? Maybe it's time all attorneys undergo evaluations to determine if they are stable enough to handle serious cases for other people. Maybe the courts, politicians, and judges just don't care because the legal system is run like a bunch of cattle through the system. Someone confront the judge and ask him if he knew his daughter had "problems" and how could he let her continue as an attorney with them.

Meanwhile, back in t-town,
Bishop Lawrence Hancock holds back tears as he talks to the media this morning about the fabricated story by Karyn McConnell Hancock.

He's only crying because he knows that he'll have to sell the benz and the fine wardrobe to pay for his honey's taxes. I guess he'll also have to move the Final Harvest Church to a open floor space at Rocko's indoor flea market in woodville.

She hasn't paid taxes in years, I'll bet they get to keep the benzo. They should get an old bus, and make a mobile church out of that. The tears were for the people that now won't show up Sun.

maumeemom, I have to agree with your statement that postpartum psychosis could be at the root of all this, but I also have to say that it lets her off the hook too easily and is actually just a little patronizing. She wasn't postpartum back in 01, 02 or 03 when she decided not to pay taxes and that's what got this ball rolling.

Personally, I think she's just a scatterbrained spoiled brat who's gotten the easy row all her life and has never had to take responsibility for her actions because of who and what she is.

I hope she pays hard, psychotic meltdown or not.

posted by nana on Dec 11, 2007 at 09:30:37 pm     #

Maumeemom: I also agree with you that it is very possible that the root of this may be post-partum psychosis following the birth of her 3 year old and then possibly going off medication during this pregnancy.

I agree it's about medication, but too much instead of not enough.

If nothing else, they should investigate the husband. He started and runs that church which for sure is non-profit. I bet many, many dollars end up going to the Mrs. under mysterious circumstances. I'll bet that benz is property of "the church" too.

Do you suppose her money could also be laundered through the church?

If Carty really wants to bring a title of "number one city" or some crap like that, people like this should be run out of town. They have all lied and she has done much worse. The father/judge stood there and accused some people that made phone calls against him. If he is elected, next election he should booted out.
The husband, hiding behind his self appointed church title, stood there and didn't say a word about her "mental problems" until after her demise. Now he brings it up like it's a freaking badge of courage. She's thousands of dollars behind in taxes, yet they parade around town in a benz. What kind of insanity is that?
The police, bar association, and others should investigate until the cows come home. She was practicing law with mental instabilities. She was taking clients money and lawsuit awards. No wonder attorneys are referred to as such buttheads. They really don't give a crap about their clients, only the mighty dollar and golfing with their counterparts. Court is just a formality.
These kind of stories with privilaged people who act like they are better than everyone else and abuse the system and think it's ok make me sick. From her past of using her position as council member to try and get out of a ticket to driving on expired tags and license to this, she is dirt. A poor excuse for a former public official, an attorney, a mother, a wife of a bishop, and a daughter of a judge.
Excuse me for awhile, but I just threw up a bit in my own mouth thinking about this.

I just thought of something-I believe every client she had during the last three years(her husband went on record saying that's when the 'meltdown' started)should file a complaint with the Bar Assn. I would think every case should be subject to judicial review. I wonder what the final tally will be as far as the clients that were bilked? Add the tax liabilities and the sum must be several hundred large.

It's a shame that 99% of them spoil the good name for the rest.

BTW, I still believe she should face consequences for her actions even though she may be experiencing some mental health issues.
Certainly those matters, if actually existing, should mitigate some but not all of those consequences.

I agree with said comment about Carty. She was on City Council, has connections to the city through her father, etc. She's nationally known and not only does she need the book thrown at her, but also a straight jacket to boot. But if she skates from this in any way because of her "connections" or her pregnacy state..........

While I don't believe that every person of accomplishment or great talent has a duty to be a role model, I do feel that it is a shame to waste the opportunity. Her she was, a black woman with her own law firm and, on the face of it, successful. She could have been a terrific role model for young black women demonstrating that if you educate your self, work and persevere you can prosper in life. She has damaged more than just her family and her clients. She has damaged her community.

Well, she has a chance to redeem herself being a good wife and mother. In the meantime, she should be disbarred. Unless being a liar is a valuable asset for a lawyer she has proven herself not to deserve membership in the bar.

I feel sorry for her father. I suppose this might be the end of his political career. What she has become must have some reflection on his parenthood. And her husband might not fare well either since bishops are supposed to be responsible for the conduct of their families if I remember my New Testament. Her "meltdown" really screwed a lot of her society.

Do you think the "Bishop" has it in him to live the Bible? It's pretty well laid out in 1 Timothy chapter 3 how leaders are supposed to act. check out verses 4,5, and 11...

1 Timothy 3

Leaders in the Church
1 This is a trustworthy saying: "If someone aspires to be an elder,* he desires an honorable position."2 So an elder must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife.* He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach.3 He must not be a heavy drinker* or be violent. He must be gentle, not quarrelsome, and not love money.4 He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him.5 For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God's church?
6 An elder must not be a new believer, because he might become proud, and the devil would cause him to fall.*7 Also, people outside the church must speak well of him so that he will not be disgraced and fall into the devil's trap.
8 In the same way, deacons must be well respected and have integrity. They must not be heavy drinkers or dishonest with money.9 They must be committed to the mystery of the faith now revealed and must live with a clear conscience.10 Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined. If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons.
11 In the same way, their wives* must be respected and must not slander others. They must exercise self-control and be faithful in everything they do.
12 A deacon must be faithful to his wife, and he must manage his children and household well.13 Those who do well as deacons will be rewarded with respect from others and will have increased confidence in their faith in Christ Jesus.

According to the good book, the self-titled "bishop" should be stepping down until he gets his house in order.

But dont hold your breath - "Bishop" likes his Mercedes and fancy lifestyle too...

Schadenfreude (IPA: [ˈʃaːdənˌfʁɔʏdə] is a German word meaning 'pleasure taken from someone else's misfortune'.

Lügen und Täuschung = That's German for Lies and Deception.

You are mistaken Ace_Face. KMH has not experienced "misfortune". She has displayed lies and deception.

Every bad thing happening to her right now is a result of the very conscious decisions she made to be deceptive and dishonest. Her only misfortune was getting caught and now it's all catching up to her.

Does she deserve forgiveness? Of course! Every soul on Earth has a chance for forgiveness/redemption, but there's a price to pay.

Maybe misfortune is not the right word. But there are a lot of folks on this board who are loving every minute of this. Schadenfreude is definitely the way to describe the fascination....

Ah yes, forgiveness and redemption-however the forumla is: they are preceeded by CONFESSION!

posted by CharlieA-Z on Dec 13, 2007 at 03:38:37 pm     #

You bet I'm loving every minute of it and here's why.
I consider myself to be a average, God fearing American citizen. I do not lie, cheat, or steal to make money. I work honestly for every penny and try to be the best member of my family that I can. My position in the community, while not a council person, still obligates me to obey the laws and try to better the neighborhood and city through my actions. Now, that all being said, here is why I get some small bit of pleasure:
-Ms. McConnell tried to use her position as a public official/servant to get her privileges. (Just like Carty has done with that dog situation that I nor anyone else couldn't get away with at their job)
-Ms. McConnell is an attorney. She took an oath to represent her clients to the fullest of her ability and honor that oath. Apparently, she took her responsibility lightly, and the oath means nothing.
-Ms. McConnell is a citizen of the United States and while she gets to enjoy the benefits of that, there are responsibilities that go along with it. Amoung those are paying taxes. She made a choice not to pay. Not once, not twice, but several times she chose to not pay.
-Mr McConnell/bishop is a husband and father. How could he not know that his wife was is tax trouble? How could he not know that she was having trouble dealing with "issues" before her "meltdown"? He parades around in a Mercedes Benz, not a chevy cavalier, not a toledo jeep, but a Benz. Is a benz the only vehicle certified or dependable enough to carry a bishop? It is clear that these people enjoyed living on "the high horse" and now that high horse has run out of gas and broke down.
-Finally, I am a compassinate man. When I first heard about the "kidnapping", I was concerned and would have joined in the search in a moment to help out these neighbors in their moment of need. I took time out of my life to share thinking, prayer, and worry about people that I never even knew existed only to find out later that I, like many others, were duped.

If they fully want forgiveness and compassion from me, they will have to come back down to my level first. Drive a modest car, live a modest lifestyle, and show some honest caring about being honest and responsible. Until then, I'll enjoy every dismal moment they have and hope that others who do the same learn that it just won't be tolerated in this society.
