5,000,000 orphans

Iraq now has 5 million orphans.

http://www.iraqupdates.com/p_articles.php/article/25097

Iraq's anti-corruption board revealed on Saturday that there were five million Iraqi orphans as reported by official government statistics, urging the government, parliament, and NGOs to be in constant contact with Iraq's parentless children.

Five million orphans? Perhaps they should recount, as Iraq's population is around 26 million, meaning one fifth of Iraq's citizens are orphaned. That dog won't hunt, monsignor.

These people claim "more than one million."

So the question is what's an acceptable number? And is it an acceptable use of resources and soldiers' lives and well-being to cause such (insert your word for it here).

This is just one of those planned tragedies of conflict. I think Joseph Heller wrote a book about it.

What would we call a bug, a microbe, a group, a person, or a country that thousands of orphans in it's wake?

Cry for the foreign orphans while you walk right by the orphans right here in this country. Boo-hoo. Until you actually spend some time in Iraq, don't be so anxious to believe what others write to fullfill their own agenda.

I thought that Iraq was off the radar screen these days. You know, with all of the holiday shopping and all...

I don't think orphans are being created here in the US at such a disturbing rate. I think that's the point.

My apologies I'm forced to rely on secondary sources (perhaps nonobjective ones at that), but that is how things have been even before the dinosaurs didn't exist.

Here's a quote attributed to Stone Cold Stalin. I didn't hear him utter it, so it's quite possible to be inaccurate: "The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic."

Iraq is off the radar, IMO, because the drive-by media cannot use it to further their political agenda at the present time. And oh yeah, maybe because we're winning?

I wonder how many babies are aborted every year because they are "inconvenient"?

FatBabe44 - here's a quick way to do a link...

put the word you want to be linked in quotation marks immediately followed by a colon and then the web address.

so "here": web address without a space

will look like this: here is a link to my blog...

Wasn't Ron Paul saying before the war that Iraq has no air force or navy?

Are "we winning"? By destroying soldiers and their families in the US and civilians and their families in Iraq. Who's really winning but the people gaining both economically and politically by such things?

The economic sanctions placed on Iraq before the "war" has allegedly done more damage to Iraq than any military has done(and allegedly strengthened their dick-tater's stranglehold on the country).

As far as abortion goes, you are more than free to start another topic.
