Excellent YouTube video about the latest Internet craze with the song being a takeoff on a Billy Joel tune.

From what I understand a lot of VC money is from old industries. They're people dieing to invest their money in the next big thing. A lot of auto money.
The value of most companies lied in the fact that most the stock was unavailable to sell as options. So stock prices were based on a fraction of the total outstanding shares you could actually buy or sell. This inflates prices grossly and then the Wall Street "analysts" that were buy, buy, buy (repeat ad nauseum).
I don't understand the revenue models. Has anyone you know actually clicked on an ad or sponsored link on google or any other site on purpose? Or actually bought anything from a link?
They're marketing to rubes.
But google does neat things. Ebay is sitting on skype, which will probably destroy the cell phone industry and create dirt cheap mobile phones. A lot of sites are just the evolution of another site. A lot of business models just seemed fundamentally fucked, just combining something inane with the internets.
I think one of the most useful sites is amazon, just for the book and product reviews. This is an unintended but extremely useful feature. I never buy anything from there.
