Ford's new ad: Why did you buy a Ford? (video from YouTube).
True, they were offered a bailout, but didn't take the money. Given the mood of the country about bailouts (car companies, Wall St., wherever), this is a hell of a marketing move. If this runs in any sort of heavy rotation, it will resonate.
that's why I recently bought I Ford. I figured it would be good to give my business to a company that knows what their doing
There's no way in heck I would buy a Government Motors vehicle. It's a shame, too, because I think those new Cameros are sharp.
no kidding about the GM - they took the $$ they were given and built an assembly plant in MEXICO with it!!
Not even close to true however...they took plenty of money, just not from the TARP pool...

Ford Credit - borrowed $15.9 billion

Took $5.9 billion of government money for retooling plants.
Of course Ford wouldn’t be here today without the $5 billion bailout of the supply network as well.

They also benefited greatly from Cash for Clunkers.
Lastly China is building three plants in China…

Not taking bailout money wouldn't even slightly factor in to my decision-making on a car purchase. Ford finally has some good looking vehicles - I would just never buy one again. My first car was a Ford Escort and it was by far the worst car I've ever owned, not to mention all of the horror stories my friends have with everything from Mustangs to Explorers. I think I've known one person who actually has positive things to say about their Ford, that's about it. When they start making more reliable cars I'll think about buying one.
