Lindsay Webb New Toady for Finkbeiner

Toledo's mayor, Carleton S. Finkbeiner, has a new toady girl on council that helped his other toady become Council president. Lindsay Webb had her arm twisted by the mayor and broke her promise, casting her vote for newly-elected Mark Toady Sobczak. The mayor appealed to his usual Republican bloc of votes plus independent Mike Collins who, along with Webb and Sobczak gave the mayor just what he wanted.

As a result, the nasty A-team, B-team political war continues to rage in Toledo politics. Finkbeiner, who has run as a Republican and independent, ran and won as a B-team Democrat, a faction that grabbed the leadership of the local Democratic Party. Sobczak was the only remaining B-team Democrat on Council, but with the coalition of the Republicans and Lindsay Webb, they are back in power.

With all of the problems facing the city of Toledo, the city does not need a political spat between Council and the mayor, but that is exactly what it is ahead for the beleaguered city. Once again, Carleton Finkbeiner proves that he is the master of divisiveness. Lindsay Webb will have lots of explaining to do to her constituents.

As one of Lindsay's constituents, I don't plan to judge her on this one vote for president.

I'm glad she wants public hearings for the Erie Street Market and has asked for an explanation for why two vendors haven't been paid. Further, on her interview this morning on WSPD, she suggested that perhaps the public hearing could be scheduled through McNamara's neighborhoods committee rather than through Sobszak's economic development committee.

She's also opposed to the garbage tax which Carty wants to make permanent.

By my count, she's 2-1 against 'carty issues.'

"As a result, the nasty A-team, B-team political war continues to rage in Toledo politics."

But that's not possible. I thought Chris Redfern put an end to this back in August.

After Ludeman got the boot, Frank Szollosi said, "We wanted to move into a period of greater cooperation and respect."

From mholdri's Sep 1, 2007 article titled The City Council Circus Continues :

I'm sure all this A-Team vs. B-Team bickering will be resolved with a golf outing when the weather turns warm again.

The vote for council prez :

Supporting Mark Sob ... czak :

  • Lindsay Webb (D)
  • D. Michael Collins (I)
  • Tom 'Olander' Waniewski (R)
  • Betty Shultz (R)
  • George Sarantou (R)

Supporting Michael Ashford :

  • Wilma Brown (D)
  • Phil Copeland (D)
  • Mike Craig (D)
  • Joe McNamara (D)
  • Frank Szollosi (D)

Remember, what's really important is giving the impression of doing something without ever actually achieving anything. I think that's from a productivity book written by George Costanza.

Maggie- you know, Carty used to be a Republican, then an independent-Republican, and when that all failed, he turned his coat to be a 'democrat.' As you are a Republican and a former associate of Tom Noe, you clearly understand the sleaze of the political world.

Your take on Ms. Webb's 'commitment' to actually voting against Carty's harebrained ideas gives me no confidence. If she can be coerced to change her very first vote in Council, she's already tainted goods.

"Sleaze" is the right word.

Mwtmr - you may be correct, but this might not have anything to do with Carty. It's just as likely that Sobczak promised her a committee assignment, is it not?

I guess, having been there-done that when it comes to being an elected official, I consider that there are other factors which might have come into play, rather than assuming some all-consuming power that Carty holds ....

I'd like her to explain why she changed her mind rather than allow us all to speculate as to the reasoning.

(p.s. I think Carty's political affiliation is irrelevant to Webb's vote, though I know it's a big issue for you.)

"Tom 'Olander' Waniewski (R)"

Why 'Olander'?

Billy - perhaps because he held a fundraiser at Olander Park - which is actually in Sylvania???
