The Ohio 21st Century Transportation Priorities Task Force is bringing all Ohioans to the table to explore the broad spectrum of transportation issues facing the state. With your input, we will prioritize how the state balances the movement of people and freight, promotes safety and reduces congestion, creates jobs and encourages responsible growth, helps to build sustainable communities, and links all modes of transportation - connecting highways to rail, aviation, water ports, and transit.

Learn about the history of cheesemaking and about his experience, which is a new addition to the Northwest Ohio food scene.

4 Madcap Puppets Fun-filled Library Tour!
Giant puppets visit three branch locations August 7
The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library welcomes the Cincinnati-based giant puppet company Madcap Puppets for three shows of the exciting performance Once Upon A Clock on Thursday, August 7.
The free and open to the public shows are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. in the Children's Library Program Room at Main Library, 325 Michigan St., at 2:30 p.m. at the Kent Branch Library, 3101 Collingwood Blvd., and again at 7 p.m. at the Maumee Branch Library, 501 River Rd. Once Upon A Clock is designed for all age groups.

You probably wouldn't think this right off the bat, but it does make sense. So, kudos to Forbes for putting it down in writing (and actually not writing something gloom and doom about Detroit, for a change). By their accounts, the Woodword corridor ranks in the top 10 for fuel efficient areas.

Encompassing the Ferndale, Huntington Woods and Berkeley sections of metropolitan Detroit, the dense corridor stretches 27 miles over 11 municipalities and is home to the largest number of jobs. It means something in Motor City that upwards of 12% of residents use public transport; the ridership rate in nearby Sterling Heights is below 5%. The average commute time in Berkeley, 19 minutes, is half as long as that of other downtown neighborhoods.

Join the "Transportation Conversation"
Industry experts and state leaders named to
Ohio 21st Century Transportation Priorities Task Force
(April 14, 2008) - Inviting all Ohioans to join in a first-of-its-kind "Transportation Conversation" to determine the type of transportation system the state needs for the future, the Ohio Department of Transportation officially launched the Ohio 21st Century Transportation Priorities Task Force by naming the diverse mix of industry experts and state leaders who will lead the historic endeavor.
Leading the task force will be Chairman Ty Marsh, president of the Columbus Chamber, Vice-Chair Frank Jackson, mayor of Cleveland, and Vice-Chair Deborah Lieberman, commissioner for Montgomery County. The statewide conversations will be led by individual steering committees centered on three key issues: promoting a multi-modal system, maximizing public investment, and generating economic development.
Supporting the effort will be a host of individuals and experts serving on working committees, with backgrounds ranging from business and industry, shipping and logistics, finance and development, urban planning and agriculture, education and health care, transportation, and state and local government.
In addition to gathering public input and information at a series of open meetings across the state, the task force is encouraging all Ohioans to join the conversation by submitting their ideas and opinions.
Also, please take a moment to complete a public opinion survey regarding transportation in Ohio.
The Ohio 21st Century Transportation Priorities Task Force will convene its inaugural meeting May 7 at ODOT's Central Office in Columbus.
A final report from the Task Force is expected by this Fall. Through a consensus around these important issues, Ohio can have one voice on it transportation needs as we enter debate on the state's next biennium budget and the authorization of a new federal transportation bill.
