--------------------------------------------------------------------------------(One minor spoiler ahead)
I viewed HALLOWEEN (Zombie's "reimagining") for free on the internet, and am I glad I didn't pay for it-which is why I jumped at the chance-this is a good way to check out ones I have a bad feeling on, or would never see otherwise. Well, let's see-oh, yeah....WHY did Zombie try to gain insight /garner sympathy for Michael by showing he was abused, bullied, etc; when he then throws all that completely out the window by having him kill the only person who ever showed him nothing but dignity and respect (Danny Trejo, the old guard)? Should have just skipped the part of his incarceration completely and pick up with his escape as the original did. Sadly, he seems to think profanity , cameos, and gore will take the place of suspense and story. The more he tells us about Michael, the less evil he seems-less is always more in some cases. Sadly, bits and pieces of this still work, especially once we get back to Haddonfield, where certain scenes make you think he channeled Carpenter somehow. Biggest flaw: The girls here trying to take the place of P.J. Soles, Nancy Loomis, and Jamie Lee Curtis...are simply HORRENDOUS actors. The Loomis character is also underused, as he and Michael were always the main focus. All in all, a totally unnecessary "Reimagining" of the story. Although, strangely, had this version come out in 1978, IT would probably have become the megahit. just because there would have been nothing to compare it to. Not putting it on the 'worst' list because had they used a different name other than Myers, and make it have no relation to the HALLOWEEN series, it would have stood on its own. Watchable, but nothing more where I'm concerned. Five out of ten, which is being generous.
