BOWLING GREEN - A Sylvania man who has made numerous unsuccessful bids for public office is awaiting trial on charges he and another man stole scrap metal from two local businesses.
Ed Emery, 61, and David Post, 40, who both list their address as 6069 Huntington Rd., each are charged with theft, possessing criminal tools, and two counts of criminal trespass - all misdemeanors - in Bowling Green Municipal Court.
Records show that the pair was arrested about 9:15 p.m. Aug. 14 by Bowling Green police responding to a report of someone stealing scrap from Tin Man Heating and Cooling on Bellard Drive. An employee who was checking the premises told police he saw two men in the scrap container, but when he pulled into the business, they reportedly jumped out, got in a truck, and drove out over a curb and through the grass.
The employee followed the men, whose vehicle was later stopped by state troopers on State Rt. 25 just north of Dowling Road.
According to Bowling Green police, Mr. Emery told officers they had permission to take scrap from Gearhart Plumbing Heating & Cooling on Newton Road but denied being in the dumpster at Tin Man. Police found a cordless drill and a cordless reciprocating saw in the men's truck along with various scrap items, the report stated.
