Some great old photos showing different views of the old [Point Place] Casino
and rollercoaster built over the waters of the Maumee River at Bay View Park...
across from Cullen Park. It was built like this for the cooling effects of the water.
Cruise ships came from all over the Great Lakes to visit here. It was a big deal.
Toledo was a vibrant and booming town in the 1890's and early 1900's... up until
the Great Depression hit in Oct. 1929. In fact, Toledo was the 26th largest city
in America back then. The eras of the "Gay '90's" up to & including the "Roaring
20's" were very good times for Toledo. That's how & why little ol' Toledo, Ohio
ended up with a world-class art museum and world-class zoo... with both of them
consistently rated in the Top 10 in America... even today.

PS: There was also a big casino built further up-stream on the Maumee River,
in Walbridge Park, on the high banks of the river, looking towards Rossford.
And, there were some smaller casinos located in the downtown area of Toledo
as well. But the big one was the one at the mouth of the river at Maumee Bay,
located in Point Place. The rollercoaster was a railway ride. The old pilings for
the casino and the rollercoaster can still be seen sticking out of the water when
water levels are low. The grounds of the Point Place casino and "the midway"
are still open and unused. The Casino building was 3 stories and had a 3,800
seat theater in it! (That's as big as the Stranahan Theatre in South Toledo.)
