This September 2006, during the *first four (4) Saturdays*, the Arts & Entertainment district of Uptown Toledo will be abuzz with creativity!
The [[Arts Commission of Greater Toledo]], [[KickStart Toledo]] and others are working towards the month-long, multi-media arts event that will be located in the [[Uptown District]] of Toledo.
Artomatic has secured a huge building on Adams Street to use as an anchor for gallery space, performances and installations. This is a 100% "volunteer-driven":http://www.artomatic419.org/volunteering.html event. There are no paid ARTOMATIC staff. Artomatic is contributing to pay for utilities, security, and marketing for the event. Artomatic needs the participation of the creative community and supporters to make this happen.
h2. Origins
Last year the [[Arts Commission of Greater Toledo]] (ACGT) asked what artists wanted to see in the arts community. The answer: networking, access to spaces, opportunities for professional development, and connections to other creative people.
Modeled after an ongoing cultural event in Washington D.C., Artomatic 419 in September, 2006 is the first of it's kind outside of the District of Columbia! Artists of all disciplines will gather from all over Toledo and NW Ohio to celebrate the arts.
h2. Location
The [[Uptown District]] is located to the west of Toledo's Central Business District. It is bounded by tenth street on the East, Washington Street on the South, Collingwood Blvd to the East and Woodruff and Adams Streets on the North. Uptown's location, adjacent to downtown and along the major corridors into the downtown business area, makes it an ideal area in which to locate a business.
The Artomatic 419 building is located at 1717 Adams St, Toledo OH 43624.

h2. Opportunities
Artomatic 419 will provide opportunities for learning and development. Workshops, lectures, and panel discussions will cover topics from arts marketing to grant writing and portfolio development.
A grass-roots steering committee comprised of local creatives, arts administrators and community activists is working to ensure the broadest possible community representation among participants.
Artomatic is an organic arts experience. It is community-based and artist organized. There will be no jury, no curators. The show will thrive based on the enthusiasm and hard work of its participants! All art sales will be commission-free and handled by the artists.

h2. Playwright Submissions
The [[Harvest Theatre]] of Toledo is taking original play submissions for a *"One Page Play Festival."* Selected plays will be performed at Artomatic 419 in September.
Plays must be no longer than one page in length and double-spaced. Topic is of the author's choosing. Preference will be given to plays with one to four characters.
Entries must be post-marked by Friday, July 21 and mailed to Harvest Theatre One Page Play Festival, P.O. Box 140323, Toledo, OH 43614-0323. For official guidelines, visit "harvesttheatre.com":http://www.harvesttheatre.com under the heading "2006-2007 Season.":http://www.harvesttheatre.com/nextseason.html E-mail: Info@harvesttheatre.com.
h3. One-page festival update
From over 200 submissions worldwide, 40 plays have been chosen covering all genres of plays. 4 performers play over 20 roles apiece during the show. And to add to the fun - no two shows will EVER be the same, as the line-up of plays will be chosen at random every night during the performance. $10 admission fee - all proceeds benefitting Artomatic419! "Who's Line Is It Anyway" meets Charlie Mingus to create Harvest Theatre's version of "Theatre Jazz"!
The one-page festival peformances will be held on twice on September 9th and once September 16th.
h2. Arti Gras
On Saturday, September 2nd from 12:00pm to 6:00pm, in association with The Uptown Association and the Adams Amble, there will be a huge block party spanning several blocks of Adams Street with bands, balloons, food, art, fun, games and a great time for all![2]
Artomatic 419 is trying to recreate the spirit of Mardi Gras and New Yorks Street Fairs on September 2nd. The group has a commitment from the Uptown Association that they are on board with this and will do everything they can to not only promote it as such, but to keep this running as a long-running yearly event a celebration of arts and entertainment in Toledo!
Artomatic 419 is looking for people (performers, actors, musicians, magicians, mimes contortionists, singers, artists, clowns, men and women who like to wear costumes, men who like to wear dressescarnival types bearded ladies, Siamese twins, the infamous snake girl! Little People, Big People, stilt-walkers (men in heels will do too!), sword-swallowers, sword-eaters, people who want to get married, people who want to get divorced!. This is a real chance to "let your freak flag fly". The hope is that this will be as much fun as San Franciscos Bay-to-Breakers, but without all that nasty running.
Toledo does not have a "no holds barred" festival on a par with some of the inspired lunacy of other cities (Mardi Gras, Phillys Mummers Parade, Pasadenas Doo Dah Parade and he aforementioned San Franciscos Bay-to-Breakers.) This is a chance to cut loose and have one last burst of summer as the season draws to a close. . .
If you, or anyone you know, fits the bill and would be interested in participating, wed ask that you contact Bill Quinlan at bq@harvesttheatre.com .
This is a volunteer event.

If an artist cannot make one of the dates, the artist is allowed to send someone else to make the space selection.[1]
