... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST
Friday...
A lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 4 PM EST
Friday.
Lake effect snow will continue across the northeast Ohio and
northwest Pennsylvania snow belt regions early this morning. The
heavy snow will likely begin to taper off for a short time at or
shortly after rush hour this morning. The snow showers and squalls
will then begin to pick up in intensity again late this morning
and continue through tonight into Friday.
Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches can be expected
today. Thunder and lightning may accompany some of the snow
squalls. Gusty winds will cause blowing and drifting snow and
visibilities will be greatly reduced at times.
3 to 5 inches of additional snow is likely tonight... although the
snow bands will become more localized. Some locations could end
up with more than a foot and a half of snow before the activity
totally ends Friday afternoon.
Little temperature recovery is expected today as much colder air
returns to the region. Temperatures will drop through the teens
this evening.
Be sure to stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite
weather source for the latest on this lake effect snow storm.

Statement as of 4:31 AM EST on January 30, 2007
... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 10 am EST
Wednesday...
A lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 10 am Wednesday
for the snowbelt of extreme northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania.
Snow will accumulate 6 to 10 inches with over a foot where snow
squalls persist today into Wednesday.
Snow will develop across the area this morning ahead of a cold
front. The passage of the cold front will cause the wind to shift
from southwest to west. This will allow lake effect snow showers
and squalls from Lake Erie to come onshore. Heavy lake effect
snow is likely from Cleveland eastward all along the Lakeshore.
The heavier snow may push inland this afternoon.
The amount of the change in the wind direction today will
determine where the heaviest snow occurs and where the squalls
occur tonight. Residents of northeast Ohio and northwest
Pennsylvania should stay tuned to the latest forecasts and
warnings and be prepared for wintry travel today into Wednesday
morning. Snow covered roads and near white out conditions are
likely with the heavier snow squalls.

... Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from 6 PM this evening
to 12 PM EST Monday...
... Lake effect snow watch remains in effect from 7 PM EST this
evening through Sunday evening...
A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from 6 PM this evening to
12 PM EST Monday. A lake effect snow watch remains in effect from
7 PM EST this evening through Sunday Evening.
Lake effect snow showers are expected to develop tonight behind
an Arctic cold front. Accumulations tonight will range from 2 to
4 inches with another 3 to 5 inches possible Sunday. Winds are
expected to be roughly parallel to the Lake Erie shoreline for
much of the event... so the heaviest accumulations will likely be
along and north of the Interstate 90 corridor.
In addition... west to southwest winds will increase to 15 to
25 mph this afternoon and tonight causing dangerous wind chills.
Wind chills from sunset today through the morning hours Monday
will be from 10 to 20 degrees below zero. The gusty winds will
also cause considerable blowing and drifting snow.
A lake effect snow watch means that significant winter weather is
possible in localized areas within the next 36 hours. Stay tuned
to NOAA Weather Radio and other radio and TV stations for further
details or updates.
A Wind Chill Advisory is issued when strong wind will combine
with cold temperatures to create dangerously cold conditions for
exposed skin. The wind will make it feel like it is 10 degrees
below zero or colder for a period of several hours. If you will
be outdoors use common sense and dress warmly... making sure that
all exposed skin is covered. If possible... avoid prolonged
exposure to the cold to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Stay
tuned to weather radio or other radio and TV stations for further
details or updates.
