For some reason, while it seems as if everyone thinks they can write poetry, many are hesitant to write journalism. People have always found it simpler and more convenient to talk to each other about the news than to go out and write/record the news. I also think visitors are basically using the comments section as a low-tech social networking service -- "read stories" and "submit stories" is not as compelling as "talk to peers."_
