- The data used comes from the May 15, 2008 file of registered sex offenders available at the Lucas County Sheriff's website.
- 788 records exist in the May 15, 2008 file.
- 710 records were successfully added to database. (90%)
- 78 records, however, were unmappable. View unmappable records
- The data is combined with the Google mapping application programming interfaces available at Google Maps. Read the About page for more technical details.
- The Lucas County and the statewide sites both provide a means to search their database and create maps. I just needed a reason to play around with the Google Maps APIs, so that's why this was created. At the county and state sites, more detailed information about the offenders exist, including a photo most of the time.
- Here you can view what sex offenders are living in a city or zip code. You can search through a list of last names and offender classifications. And you can also enter an address and find out what offenders are living nearby.
- All of the locations for Lucas County's libraries have been loaded to allow for quick searches of offenders living near a library. A few Toledo public elementary schools have also been loaded, and more will be added to the database for Toledo and other communities. But again, if you know the address of a school, a daycare center, park, etc., enter the address in the above text field. Google Maps does a great job of displaying park locations.
- You can move around within the map by clicking on the arrow buttons or by clicking and dragging the map. The plus and minus buttons allow you to zoom in and out. You can click on the upside-down teardrop icons on the map to get information about the offender.
- If you have questions or comments, or if you experience any technical or data problems, e-mail admin@toledotalk.com.
- On a web page with a map, the data should be on the left side of the page, and the map on the right. If that's not the case, e-mail admin.
A disclaimer about the registered sex offender information from Ohio's Electronic Sex Offender Registration and Notification website:
The registry is not a complete and comprehensive listing of every person who has ever committed any sex offense or child-victim oriented offense in Ohio, nor does it make all information about every offender living in Ohio available on the Internet. Furthermore, the database is compiled based, in part, upon information provided by the convicted offender and such information is not independently verified by BCI&I. As such, the registry may contain erroneous information. It is your responsibility to make sure the records you access through this site pertain to the person about whom you are seeking information. A positive identification of an individual cannot be conclusively established by comparing name, date of birth, social security number or other information with that provided in this registry. Comparisons based on appearance may also be misleading, and cannot establish a positive identification without some possibility of error. The only way to positively link someone to a sex offender record is through fingerprint verification. Therefore, extreme care should be exercised in using any information obtained from this web site. Neither BCI&I nor the State of Ohio shall be responsible for any errors or omissions produced by secondary dissemination of this information.
